Trust me even if the BBC had a bigger budget it has no need for a second saturday night sci-fi drama to air after Doctor Who, and the BBC already has shows that air in the Doctor Who time slot when its not on air, the before mentioned, Robin Hood & Merlin.

Simple answer: no.
Not unless you can find a way for Nigel Kneale to write it from beyond the grave. His input is essential to Quatermass; without him, you're just using the character's name on a knock-off.
I've only ever seen the Hammer film version of Pit, but I love it, think it's a great story which does that rare thing of mixing horror and sci-fi well.
