FORGET THE FINGER! DEMAND TORSO LOSS! THE CANON MUST BE PRESERVED! PEGG SHOULD HAVE BOTH LEGS CHOPPED OFF ANAKIN SKYWALKER STYLE. ANYTHING LESS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED BY THE FANBOIS.

Agreed. We're making fun of the well-known obsessiveness that Trek fans tend to have over "canon;" there's absolutely no ridicule against Doohan implied or intended in anything I've seen here.
Doohan's involvement is peripheral and random at best. It could just as easily be over any other obscure physical characteristic of TOS -- Pine must wear a toupee, the Enterprise bulkheads must be made of plywood, Yelchin must wear a big bushy wig, etc.
