It’s kind of a meme now isn’t it?
Riker’s beard is like the opposite of jumping the shark.Things improved after the beard.:guffaw:

Starfleet condones regular dating among the crew, you think they care about facial hair?

Also while no facial hair might be a sign of being clean and well groomed on Earth in a Western country, when you take into account not only the whole human race, but all alien races, forbidding facial hair could be against people's cultural or religious convictions, or not even a practice for some alien races.

It's no like Riker had the homeless beard look that is popular today.

Troi could walk around with cleavage showing. How is that professional?

In the ‘progressive’ nature of Star Trek and it’s universal view, any natural state associated with any race should be permitted. His beard was also a celebration of cultural dignity. They don’t require Worf to have a haircut.

On today's episode of 'we've run out of things to talk about', we discuss Starfleet regulations regarding facial hair with a focus on Riker's Beard. :guffaw:
Sometimes I don't think other people can truly know the depths of just how much I've discussed this show lol

This is something I would like to learn more about from the board, my Dad told me the reason why Frakes grew a beard was because fans mistook him for William Shatner and it bothered him. Is this true? I first watched TNG when I was younger I never saw the resemblance at all, but back in 1987 - 88 it was a thing, allegedly.

The only person I can imagine confusing a 35 year old Frakes with a 58 year old Shatner, is someone with dementia who thought it was still 1966

So long as it's not a Bajoran earring, Starfleet doesn't much care how their officers and crew present themselves

From what I know he grew the beard for his role on the miniseries North and South and then just kept it.
