Should Phase II move on?

Now that we've boldly gone back to where we started and we're getting new, canon (ish) adventures with our old crew will Phase II feel like a duplicate?
Or will it be championing "real Star Trek"?

Or, my personal favourite, Cawley and Co. should go to the next phase: the Movie era! Seeing as they've done an amazing job on Phase II I think they would benefit from the freedom that the movie era would offer esp. between series 3 and TMP. They'd have free reign to do an awful lot and I personally would love to see it.

Wrong forum, but I'll answer.

No, they shouldn't move on, imo.

This is a great time for Trek, we can have our cake and eat it too. There's the nuUniverse and the Prime Universe as represented by Cawley's merry band and those still writing the novels. Moreover, I'm glad that the PII team is taking concepts and designs from the aborted series and integrating it into their series.

How is this even a question? :wtf:

Frankly, we don't live in a one-size-fits-all world, so not only should Phase II keep doing what they are doing, there should be more of these types of endeavors (not less).

I think we at Phase II can't really afford to move on to a different looking Star Trek from the one we've been doing. The TOS-era sets and costumes and props we currently have were all amassed over years and years at a cost of thousands and thousands of personal dollars. Personally, I can't afford to start from scratch and start amassing a butt-load of movie era sets and costumes and props now. But if someone else wanted to pony up the money, that might be a different story. MostlyHarmless1 would love to see us do movie-era stuff now. But can MostlyHarmless1 help to subsidize the expensive changeover--or would we just be on our own with that?

We've pretty much "officially" made "alternate universes and timelines" a part of "canon" as of the newest film. Even though they've worked very hard to keep their material canon (with the exception of the brilliant original cut of "To Serve All My Days", which exists in its own pocket universe, and thanks to DC Fontana's storytelling is fine with me), I've always considered it a very similar parallel universe. Phase II, in the meantime, is deliciously virgin territory, and I'm looking forward to it.

It's a big playground, I think there's room for everybody.

Personally, I feel that the Phase II folks are doing more to keep the TOS flame alive than almost anybody else, so they need to KEEP AT IT! Same for the Exeter, Farragut, and Aurora folks!

Totally agree. Couldn't have said it better. I love watching them because they each do something really good.

Aurora really fascinates me with the technical side because I am totally computer illiterate and just watching something like that done really amazes me...

The only thing I´m hoping for is that they´ll proceed to more P2/TMP/TWOK-era elements. re-purposing packaging containers or similiar stuff they can get their hands on into greebles/props, modernizing GC models shown as window dressing in exterior shots to keep up with the Enterprise´s refits, adding tiny labels here and there (like the myriad of small details scattered throughout TMP and onwards, ...).
Basically just stay their course, consider options if they offer themselves cheaply and put good writing before flashy effects.

And stay the hell away from any excessive use of lens flares! :D

My question is: Move on to what? They're enormous fans of Trek. Would you rather see them do a sequel to "My Mother the Car?" "Quark (the TV show)" or "Golden Girls'?

I think they're doing just fine as it is.
