Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..??

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

The chair in my theater rocked a bit, and my hair already is gray. So bite me.

Quasar's point was that s/he is NOT currently in a rocking chair, and doesn't want to wait that long to see the next film. Nothing negative was said about seniors. Just about WAITING a long time for the next movie.
Yes, I know. I was making a self-deprecating joke about my age.

Don't be so pendantic.

I thought you were kidding, gastrof...lol! I didn't take your post to be taking exception to what I posted. But, I guess it's always good to clarify one's position...better safe than sorry...

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

LOTR was already released as a trilogy since the 1950's; I don't know if that leads to the production method making more sense. But millions of readers expected it that way for decades.

And Jackson's LotR movies have made 2.5 Billion so far...

When three Trek movies were first "thought about" I was hoping we get a Jackson type trilogy where all three movies were filmed at the same time.

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

I wouldn't recommend it. The last few times a studio has done this (Pirates of the Carribean, Matrix II and III) the results were less than spectacular. At best they should plan to have the two movies tie in together like TWOK and TSFS, but I don't think they should high-pressure the production crew by making them film two movies at once. Quality control issues crop up at that level of production.

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

It would only make sense to film them back to back if they got a good enough story that warranted them doing so. Typically when films are shot back to back, they're released within 6-12 months from each other. If there is a unified story, then go ahead, but if it's just going to be two stories, they shouldn't.

I'm not sure the next Trek movie will have the same success.

That was my thought too. If they come up with a good single film story, do it. If they come up with two stories or two films as one story do it. But if Paramount says "Do two back to back" that's a different thing - it means the writers have to come up with two strong stories off the cuff rather than having an idea already or planning ahead.

My thought is it's the writer's call as to whether they can make it work.

And we all know how well respected writers are in Hollywood...

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

I wish they would film the next two back to back. That's how Peter Jackson shot the Lord of the Rings films and I think that worked well. We got a guaranteed new film every two years.

I don't want to be in my rocking chair with gray hair watching the next Trek.

Yeah life is just too damn short! ;)

Re: Should Paramount consider filming Trek XII and XIII back-to-back..

I don't think they need to do that, no. A new film every couple of years would suit me just fine, with a new TV series eventually coming somewhere in that to give this alternate reality a little more scope, history and culture for the movies to have.

Is this series going to be a trilogy like TWOK-TSFS-TVH? I know they have signed up for 3.
