Should I read the Destiny Trilogy?

I was among those with the harsh reactions, but properly chastened now. My cousin had a pregnancy which had to be aborted because the fetus was non-viable. They have a little baby daughter now, able to live with slight problems of the kidneys. I hope the child is okay, despite of that.
On top of that I'm an aunt since 13th of July. The baby girl was born three weeks ahead of schedule, she is tiny but healthy.
They found an abandoned newborn in a public restroom at an airport. Luckily they were able to save the child.

As to the Riker-Troi family: the only idea I still don't like is the notion, that René Picard is going to marry Tasha Riker-Troi in a possible future (STO). This is a bit far-fetched.

At least they stop giving children odd names in the future...... (like North West... )

Yes, the whole subplot with Troi/Riker hit me on a whole new level this year. My wife and I had a miscarriage with a second child back in january. It was a horrible experience. I sudddenly was able to relate to that subplot in a whole new way that i couldn't fathom before. Thankfully, we were able to conceive again a few months later, and now everything is tracking just fine for my new daughter to be born this november.

On the other hand I didn't like the idea that Troi should be incapable of giving birth to a healthy child, when Lwaxana enjoyed late motherhood. The episod The Child doesn't mention any problems for Troi as to future motherhood.

Deanna's been exposed to all sorts of space radiation and bodily mutations and other weird phenomena over the years, though. Lwaxana hasn't, and Deanna hadn't yet been through all that as of "The Child."

It wasn't the plot element in and of itself. Its the way it was written. To me personally the way it was put in there dragged the story down. The subject could have been about anything...it could have been about one of them having a mid life crisis or one of them being offered a dream job on another ship or back at Starfleet command or whatever. If it was written in the same style and the same way it would have just been a drag on the overall story to me.

I agree miscarriage is a painful subject. Like many I have had friends who have suffered through it and I went through a scare with my youngest. Bleeding and ER visits...fortunately it turned out to be something unrelated-but I got just a small a taste of what it must feel like and it was awful.
