Should I buy the series set?

I've been wanting to get the TNG series set for a while now, and have suddenly come into enough money to do so. But over at Amazon.com, they're having that Sci-Fi sale, where I can get "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" in their entireties for just over half the cost of TNG.

So, what do ya think, anyone who's a fan of both? Which should I go for?

Which one would you watch more often?
And which one do you like more?

That's what it comes down to. Given the choice; I'd go for TNG - but I don't like BtVS or Angel. You do; so choose the series you prefer. :)

Bear in mind that TNG is traditionally more expensive than buffy or angel and the prices are down on amazon.com now. might not be a better time to get TNG whereas buffy and angel will always be more affordable.

My gf made me watch all of Buffy and I am now making her watch TNG from start to finish. Bottom line is: TNG is classic storytelling, and will still be classic in 20 years. Buffy, while having moments of brilliance, goes downhill rapidly after S4, and its soap-opera-ness tends to decrease rewatchability. I think they are different shows and I wouldn't want to have 'missed' Buffy, but I think TNG is a better DVD investment, all up. I wouldn't trade my Buffy set for my Trek set, not in a million.

your better off buying all 7 seasons individually. The whole series set is junk. They come in little plastic trays and are really easy to break, and there isn't even an episode guide. The individual seasons will run you about the same cost, and while may be slightly more shelf room are a much better investment

Actually I can't agree on that: I bought this set of the series for only 160 Euro (no idea what that is in Dollars). That was MUCH cheaper than the single season boxes. Also, I quite like the box itself. You can skip through the episodes rather fast and there IS an episode guide. So I don't know which set you're talking about ...

my friends did not come with an episode guide, maybe they updated the European one. i personally also like having all the bonus features for each season. And on amazon (the cheapest place to get them) it is 50 dollars cheaper to buy each season individually.

The region 1 (U.S., etc.) and region 2 (UK, etc.) TNG sets have always been very different (series set and season box sets). Region 1 got the shaft, imo.

BTW, avoid the green case "chosen collection" you'll see on ebay, it's a bootleg and the sellers lie or cover that fact.

If you want to watch them over and over again (like I do), then go for it.
I did, and it's worth it having a complete library.
:techman:
Budgetary restraints aside, of course. I bought most of 'em second hand. So it wasn't so harsh.

I bought all the sets when I was relatively poor and could barely afford them (even at a substantial discount). Five years later, I"m fortunate enough to have a far more comfortable lifestyle and I still watch the episodes often. It's an investment I've never regretted.

Considering I don't think they're showing TNG anymore on any TV station (at least not in America), I'd say get it. I got the set for my birthday, and I absolutely love having it.

It's not being shown on Spike here in the USA? Sigh! :(
