Should Faran Tahir have been nominated for ...

propita

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Best Supporting Actor?

I know he was only in the first 10 minutes, but Judi Dench was nominated for "Shakespeare in Love" for less screen time, wasn't she?

And this IS Robau we're talking about. The actor took a 10 minute role and turned it into pretty much the epitome of what it means to be a Star Fleet Captain. No wonder George Kirk was able to follow and be a great captain immediately afterward, himself.

I told some friends that Robau is considered by many to be THE best captain in all of ST. They were incredulous. "You mean that guy at the beginning who gets killed early? He's only on screen for, what, ten minutes?!" "Hey, it's not the length of time, it's what you do with it."

Um, no.

I suspect Dench was onscreen in SiL for longer than Tahir was in ST, and in any case, she certainly had a more significant role and more dialog. Also, frankly, more presence.

I'd be more inclined to say the actor who played George Kirk should have been nominated, but I wouldn't agree with that either.

My post was kinda tongue in cheek. Though I do think he acted the hell outta the short time he had onscreen.

And Dench was onscreen for 8 minutes in that film. I had heard it was five minutes. Either way, not that much time.

She still does more with her time than Tahir does with his. I'm not blaming the actor...not like he wrote the script...but seriously, compare the word-counts and the quality of what's said (and how), not just the runtime.

Also, Dench had better outfits. :)

At which point Robau walked his mighty boots over them and had the Oscar committee make the award anyway, STAT.

Um, no. Next question.

(Looks around to be sure The Robau isn't after her now. :shifty:)

But seriously ... no. As said above, if anyone in ST09 deserved a nomination like that, it was probably Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk. He worked a tremendous amount of emotion into his brief time onscreen. He really sold it. Sure, Robau was badass, but that's mostly because he said very little and showed very little emotion in a horrifying situation, and looks really good bald.

Nope.

Sorry. I love the Robau character...hell, I've loved helping to create the epic meme that revolves around Captain Richard Robau. Robau is a badass!

But as much as I dig and like Faran Tahir in all he's been in...no. He's a good actor. But not "Best Supporting Actor 2009" good. Sorry.
