Shore Leave announcements

I just found out today that my DS9 novel, Force and Motion, is scheduled to be published in June 2016. So I've got that going for me...

A new Jeffrey Lang novel and it's a DS9 story!

Now this is a Shore Leave announcement worth celebrating!

:hugegrin: This list of novels for next year is fantastic. I'm so glad Jeffrey Lang is going have his Ds9 novel with Miles O'Brien& Nog coming out.I'm so glad we'll get 2 new ds9 stories.I'm looking forward to getting all of the new books coming in the next few months.:techman::cool:

Is Force and Motion post-The Fall? If so, I think this will be only the second purely DS9 post-Destiny story not written by DRGIII. I'm not counting the Bashir books by David Mack since none of those actually had DS9 in the title and they focused more on Bashir and his arc, not the whole overall DS9 story.

Yes, Force and Motion is post-The Fall. As to whether or not it's a DS9 story or not... hmmm. Difficult to say. It does NOT really move the whole DS9 tale forward in any overall sense. That's David's territory as far as I'm concerned.

But does F&M introduce changes to the characters that can be integrated into future stories? I believe it does, especially for Nog. I also introduce a couple new characters who might be used in future tales should anyone care to try.

Dayton Ward has dropped some infos about upcoming books in his post-con blog post:

We got to announce some of our upcoming Star Trek projects for the coming 12-18 months. For those keeping score at home, Kevin and I will be back in November with All That’s Left, the fourth Star Trek: Seekers novel. Following that next April will be Elusive Salvation, my sequel to 2013’s From History’s Shadow.

Then next summer, Greg Cox, David Mack, Kevin and myself bring you Star Trek: Legacies, a trilogy celebrating Star Trek‘s 50th anniversary. Greg’s up first with Captain to Captain in July, followed by Dave in August with Best Defense, and Kevin and I bat clean-up in September with Purgatory’s Key.

Finally, I was able to tease just a little bit about Headlong Flight, a Star Trek: The Next Generation novel I’ll write for 2017, that will follow the events of Armageddon’s Arrow as well as Prey, the trilogy being written by John Jackson Miller that will help to close out the 2016 publication schedule.

At least we now have titles for the first and last of the Legacies trilogy. The title for Greg's volume, Captain to Captain, invites all sorts of speculation.

Cool, so we have the whole schedule:

January - DS9: Ascendance
February - VOY: A Pocket Full of Lies
March - TOS: The Latter Fire
April - ENT: Live by the Code
May - TOS: Elusive Salvation
June - DS9: Force and Motion
July, August, September - TOS: Legacies
October, November, December - TNG: Prey
January - TOS: The Face of the Unknown

Isn't DS9: Ascendance coming out in december and Pocket Full of Lies comng in january? Does Face of The Unknown come at the end of december?...or is it coming in late january 2017? I thought Prey#3 was coming in late december, but was technically the january book. I thought we needed two more Trek novels and they were the may and june releases. The memory alpha article has no book announced for may yet.

Memory Alpha's entries are a bit inconsistent, I think -- the earlier ones give the release date (e.g. late December for Ascendance, which is the January book) and the later ones give the nominal publication month, thus creating the appearance of a gap in May. The Face of the Unknown is the "January" book, but it should come out in late December '16. I think Thrawn's list is correct. Though Dayton would be better able to confirm that, since he was the one with the list at the panel.

For precision purposes and because it's almost always predictable, I list novels on my schedule by their electronic release dates: the last Tuesday of a month.

Anything you can hint at us Jeffrey?

He did say these just a few posts later:

It is the Miles/Nog story, though the tale took an interesting tangent into TNG territory, too, revealing the fate of a minor (but important) character.

Thanks, Idran, for adding the note. I don't have much more to add just now other than I'm working through the edited version right now and am really enjoying the work. Also, we got a draft of the cover this week and it's really dynamic! Can't wait to learn what the fans say when it's released.

So far, the upcoming year seems to be fairing pretty well in terms of balance.

DS9/TNG have always been my top series, but KB has pushed VOY up there as well, and I'm really digging what Christopher has been doing with ENT-BotF Era & DTI

That said, TOS is still my least favorite Time Frame... (that is until I actually start reading the stories)

For some reason TOS stories are the ones I keep putting off or pushing down the list even though I tend to enjoy them when they're done. I think it has something to do with Basically knowing what happens to all of them destiny wise, yet all the other series (even ENT) is basically open-ended. Hell Vanguard was basically literary 'crack' and it's TOS era so it can't be the Time period itself... I dunno. I still puzzle over this.

*End Ramble*

I feel the same way about TOS. Even though I'm very fond of the characters and often really enjoy the books, there isn't the same feel of anything could happen I get with the other series. No matter what happens the ultimate fate of TOS's cast is written in stone, so there's unlikely to be any long lasting developments that stick.

I'm the opposite. I'm really only interested in the TOS era these days, largely because I think those characters have more unknown things about them. TOS was only on the air for 3 seasons. By the end of TNG, DS9, and the other shows, I knew pretty much all I ever cared to about most of those characters.
