Shooting on Xmas Special has begun.

StCoop

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Victorian setting. Doctor in a suit smoking (!) and acting in a nasty manner, abusing poor people.

Looks like that Doctor Scrooge rumour might be true.

I wonder if we have a "Salamander" situation in the offing (I'll let you puzzle that one out if you don't know).

I wonder what's happening with all those people who supposedly put on wagers that Smith was going to be fired after this season! LOL!

This is where I heard it from but if they're starting now then whatever.

Sorry if its been mentioned but according to Blogtor Who, in an interview Matt has said that filming starts on July 12th.

Filming on Christmas Special starts on July 12. It's the "most Christmassy special there'll ever be" with an equally special cast list.

It might be this year's advent calendar short story. Isn't that how we found out why the Doctor was in Belgium with a bow and arrow looking for Charlemagne?

So I guess that means no Orient Express? Too bad, I really liked the sound of that one.
The Sarah Jane episodes are airing in between now and the Christmas special. No, the Sarah Jane story doesn't have to go in between "The Big Bang" and Christmas, but the casual audience would likely expect it to be so.

Also, I believe that the whole Orient Express bit wasn't actually scripted. The Doctor was just supposed to nod and say "Yes" a lot, until they realized on set that it just wasn't dramatic.

Erm, what's your source for that?

Glad they're not doing the Orient Express story to be honest. It gives fans a chance to use their imaginations a bit.

Gallifrey Base.

Here's reference to that on Digital Spy, though that person may have picked it up from the same place.

Ah, here's the original GB post. I'd actually quote it, but that's against GB rules. I don't know who Timeboy is, but his track record with season five spoilers was dead-on, so I'm giving it credence.

The prevailing rumor about the Christmas special is that it's a riff on "A Christmas Carol."

So, in other words, it's an Internet rumor.

At the moment, sure.

For myself, I believe Timeboy. He has the track record. It's clear he's close to the production.

Chances are we'll know for certain about the filming of the season's final scene when "The Fact of Fiction" covers "The Big Bang" in Doctor Who Magazine one of these years or when The Big Brilliant Book of Doctor Who 2010 documents the entire season a little later this year.

I agree. That was just a perfect little "on to new adventures" moment. They don't need to tell us the story. Let us figure out what the obelisk and the prayer meeting was all about and which royal the Doctor was talking to (does everyone have his phone number now?).

Or they can save it for a novel. Let's have a healthy gap between the season and the Christmas special so the novels, the audios, and the comic strips can give us a bunch of Doctor/Amy/Rory adventures.
