Besides the scout ships mentioned in ST:TMP, were there 2 dreadnought class ships mentioned, or just 1? What were the ship's names & registries? JDW
Thanks for the help, what was the USS Entente doing at the time it was mentioned? I have the movie on video tape but can't hear some of the dialouge. JDW
All we hear from Entente is their call and Epsilon 9's acknowledgment. U.S.S.Merrimac (NCC-1715) is also mentioned as is a long-range shuttle (the name escapes me) but those are so far down in the mix they're barely audible.
It's the scoutships Columbia (NCC-621) and Revere, names and registry numbers were an Easter egg salute to the Franz Joseph "ST Starfleet Technical Manual".
During the Epsilon 9 close-up, 3 starships can be heard on subspace radio: Scout "Columbia" NCC-621, Scout "Revere" NCC-595, and Dreadnought "Entente" NCC-2120 can be made out, with difficulty. The 2 scouts and dreadnought are listed in the Technical Manual in the Scout and Dreadnought Class listings (TO:01:04:15 and TO:0104:25). "The Columbia" is a "Cygnus" class scout, the "Revere" is an "Hermes" class scout, and the "Entente" is a "Federation" class dreadnought. The NCCs stated also match these ships in the Manual.
^I was working on a movie "ST Concordance" fanzine in the early 80s and spent quite some time playing, and replaying, that scene to catch all the details. Then one day, riffling the Tech Manual, I noticed the NCC numbers! I was staggered, but it was not really that hard to believe, since the Franz Joseph deck plans were shown on viewscreens in TMP, ST II and ST III.
