I think they altered the stripes in addition to replacing Kirk's head.
He ruled a quarter ( or was it a third) of the world and the best he can do is a commanders braid??
Yeah, I wondered if the stripes had been altered, but it seemed illogical that someone creating a photoshop of Khan in the captain's chair would make him a commander.
Still, now that I look again, it seems maybe there are some bits of the middle half-stripe still showing where it wasn't completely erased/covered. And that does look like Shatner's build. So given that someone apparently did give Khan commander's stripes, the question is, why?

Kirk even made sure that Christopher was given a Starfleet rank stripe (Lieutenant) equivalent to the man's real US Air Force rank (Captain).
