sorry to be a pain but i was wondering if some one could give this a quick read through. it's a test page of a ship manual back ground that I'm working on. there's no pics yet but i was wondering if this reads OK for others.
my thinking is the Connie's are by the time of the next generation are buy now obsolete but were mothballed in case of a war that never happened, but starfleet are short of numbers at this time
it's not fully complete but hopefully it will help decide how to go about the manual which will be along the lines of the old fasa ship combat game books when completed. it will be mainly ships that are rarely seen on the stage of the 2370's and will have many of my own designs as well.

The few Connie's left in service are refits from the original vessels of the late 2200’s. they were once at the fore front of star fleets early exploration and were considered the best of their day, which is possibly the reason why a few were still operating nearly 100 years after the first vessels were built.
The few in service were all constructed just after 2280 and thus are not the original build Connie's, but rather the enterprise sub-class that first came into service in 2270.
However even these were upgraded in 2320 and served well for a number of years before being mothballed as the Khitomer accords were signed though part of the agreement was that Star fleet reduce the number of vessels in service. This Star fleet decided was the perfect time to decommission a very popular but old starship design.
However, in 2369 the Borg had destroyed a Star fleet fleet at Wolf 359 which left Star fleet seriously under strength at the time, they decided to see what could be brought back into service they saw 20 Connie's laying in various ship depot and found that with a few upgrades could be made part of Starfleet again thus they underwent their fifth and final major upgrade with more powerful warp engines and a more powerful torpedo system.
Their quarters were Spartan for the mid 24th century so the originals were refitted to make them more comfortable as were many of the ships systems.
However, no matter what upgrades they had it was clear, they could never be considered front line ships any more and so they were assigned inner world duties freeing up newer classes of ships for frontier work. But by 2372 only six ships were still operational as the others were either too worm out or just outclassed by pirate vessels thus the last six were briefly put into the training program then after a year of this the Connie's were given their final rest and so 08 may 2373 the last constitution class vessel the U.S.S eagle was docked in berth four of the Starfleet museum in orbit of Jupiter next to the only original constitution the U.S.S Yorktown.
One ship, the U.S.S Norman bates has the rather dubious distinction of having one of the shortest operational life of any star fleet ship, that of 12 hours. She left space dock in 2369 all refitted and ready for service when first an engine imbalance almost destroyed her, after this a complete systems failure killed the crew after first the communications failed then the life support systems fail this was followed by the ship launching all the lifeboats before anyone could use them. The ship was found a week later with everyone on board dead. She was towed back to the space dock but many refused to serve on her so she was scrapped though it is rumored while being scrapped an engineering crew was killed in an explosion while they disconnected the primary hull.
