Ship class design in progress.

This is a little ship my friend Jeff and I have been working on. It's a sequential progress of the design process. Still a work in progress.

As you can she has a little hint of STO's delicious 2409 design style. Intentional, because some of the new designs coming out of STO are absolutely delicious.

It's designed to be a 'fleet standard,' the most common sized cruiser in Starfleet. Not a behemoth like Galaxy or Sovereign, sort of the catch-all work horse. A crew of about five hundred.

I'm still looking for a name for the class. Cheyenne class is a prominent inspiration, so I was thinking perhaps Innuit class? Suggestions welcome.

As there are no replies, there is obviously something heinously wrong with this.

Jeff did the illustration, but the general idea was mine. So... What is it that's apparently making eyes bleed about this one, if no one minds my asking?

Give it some time. They will get to it. You posted on a Saturday, so that may cause difficulties as well.

For me, I am not a big fan of triangualr shaped primary hulls or "turkey legged" shaped nacelles and struts (they look like a Thanksgiving turkey from above, hence the name).

I'll keep that in mind, I often forget that weekends exist. Being sequestered in a basement writing science fiction will do that to you, I'm told.

I agree with sojourner. Not about the evils of triangle, but that the first one is the best one. The delta shape to the primary hull isn't really helping this design along. It's just updating the Prometheus. If that's what you want, go for it, but the lines of the first one are better for an "original" design

I guess I'm among the minority here then, because I love the triangular hull, and I like to experiment with it myself. And I still don't really see the 'turkey in a frying pan' whenever I look at designs with forward swept pylons. I think it works well for designs with long engineering hulls, because it helps to prevent nacelles from looking like they are mounted too far back.

The four nacelles suggests she could be a replacement for the Prometheus class, or a battleship like the Proxima and Olympus class (Tourangeau's Ares), as do the those multiple strips on the second sketch downwards, if those are phaser arrays.

I myself have tried sketching a replacement for the Prometheus class, but haven't gotten any further than getting the basic shape out.

Welp., 2-4 are fantastic Prometheus class refits if thats what you want, but personally I'd stick with number 1. Like others have said, its a far more original form to play with.

Like I said to start, I don't hate triangles. This work up just doesn't have any stand out uses of the shape. However, I think number 1 has better lines over all, not just in the primary hull.

I'd suggest working up the ideas in 2-4 with 1's primary hull, and showing those around. My feeling is that 1 was the best, but I think it would be worth it to see where the other ideas go with the first saucer. I'd been thinking of a space fighter based around lines like number 4, myself, but I haven figured out how to make it look like something that isn't a starfury.

Also, I'd like to see some orthos to get a better feel for what you are doing. Nothing too detailed. No need for that. The problem I have with most drawings is that I'm never sure what I'm projecting into it vs. what the artist meant.

Number 1 for me as well, nice look overall for shape and nacelle placement. Much more pleasing lines than the last 2. Some nice detailing in #2, but I'd prefer it to be done to something closer to the shape of #1

I like the pod/fin-like impulse fairings (or what I assume to be impulse fairings?). They're a fun, sort of retro touch.
