How sad is it that I like Daniel Davis' performance as Moriarty on TNG better than either of them?

    Fantastic!

    Coming soon isn't soon enough.

The trailer left me cold, and I'm puzzled by that. Maybe it's the Inception "BRAAAPPPP!" Maybe it's the tone of the piece, because the obvious joke moment (the bit about the hat) doesn't play as a joke. I don't know, I'm just feeling indifferent to this now.

Also, the trailer left me with the feeling that Cumberbatch and Freeman are wildly mismatched in this. They work together in a 21st-century setting, but they don't feel to me like they "fit" in a 19th-century setting. Freeman comes across as far too lightweight to Cumberbatch and his presence here. It's a trailer and I recognize that; what doesn't work in the trailer may work gangbusters in the episode proper.

I thought the trailer was great, and the special can't come out soon enough for me.

Bah, New Year's Day? I thought for certain we would get it this year.

And I'll have to wait a few days to see it because I'll be traveling at that time.

Series Two and Three premièred around then so makes sense to air it on New Years Day.

New Years day is fine with me. That day is usually too quiet and boring.

Sure, but this is just the special. They don't start filming series 4 until April.

^Oh I know, plus they were filming this back in February. No doubt somebody who decides these things at the BBC decided that because season two and three aired their first episode around new year, they'd do the same with this. I would have thought Boxing Day makes more sense though to be honest.

Kind of fits with how when Doctor Who aired in the spring they usually gravitated towards Easter premiere dates. Even Planet of the Dead, though just a special instead of an actual premiere aired Easter 2009.

Yup! He's playing the series villain. I don't know if it's all three stories or not, but that's how his casting was described.

That already makes it better than the previous series where there was No-by Jones.

Details from yesterday's panel. Minor spoilers, contrary to the article's claim of "massive spoilers."

Keyword clues dropped to describe the next season of Sherlock: Fature (although Collider's Facebook post says "future" which seems more likely), Smith, and Sherrinford.
