And I must say, I'm pretty impressed. Robert Downey Jr. once again balances comedy and drama in almost perfect alignment; the rest of the cast (Jude Law, Rachel McAdams) also seem very well-suited for their roles. The entire thing has a really interesting flavor to it. I honestly was not expecting the sardonic touch, but knowing Guy Richie's previous works, and the usual tone of Sherlock Holmes, I guess I should have known better. But I think it really works here. The tone is, shall I say, pitch-perfect.

Uh...

Well I like Robert Downey Jr in anything, but I've always thought of Holmes as more neurotic and far less smart-ass and ass-kicking than this rather odd version of the character. I'm sure I'll watch it and have fun, but this looks like a case when maybe someone should simply have made up a new character name for the new character they wanted to create.

Holmes has always been ass-kicking... at least in print.

I think this looks fab.

Kick-ass edgy action Holmes for the 21st Century. :rommie:

I suppose Watson dies in the first reel just so we'll know that anything can happen. :D

Must everything be aimed at 12-year-olds?

There's a scene after the end credits where Alan Quatermain shows up and tells Holmes about The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Initiative.

Seems very action-packed for a Holmes story. But maybe the trailer is misleading and we're seeing all the action scenes that are in the movie. I like the humour.

Hopefully this will be a good Guy Ritchie movie, I can't remember the last movie he did that I really enjoyed...it might have been "Lock, Stock...".

Looks pretty damn exciting. This might be just the thing to pull Guy Ritchie out of the creative hole.

Going on this trailer alone, it's at least a possibility.

I liked it. Looks like a grand old time. My mom, who loved the PBS Mystery Holmes will probably see it, but complain the whole time. Oh, mom.

A little bit balls to the wall action movie feeling here. I don't think this is as close to Holmes as some people are saying it is.

Unfortunately, it would appear it does. :klingon:

I'm not terribly excited to see this. I've been a huge Holmes fan since I was a teen. This just doesn't feel right to me. I'll reserve my judgment until I see it but....I think I'll be more like Professor Zoom's mom.

No kidding. Someone needs to do some reading.

If that's too much, this might help.

very true..
he had pride in his boxing ability and holmes not a smart ass???
that is just wrong.
he did had his gentle side that came through at times but over all..
yeah smart ass.

some of the stories were more action packed then others..

With the exception of the Jeremy Brett series, Holmes onscreen has never been particularly close to Arthur Conan Doyle's original tales. Most people's perceptions of Holmes are shaped more by that mass-media image than by the original works themselves. This film is just going back to the original works and diverging in a different direction, playing up aspects that have been downplayed in other film/TV versions and vice-versa. An action-hero Holmes is no more inauthentic -- indeed, arguably more authentic -- than Nigel Bruce's idiot Watson.
