Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Release

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

^Of course, I'm not sure how interesting they can make Moriarty look with an apperance that's all of 5 seconds out of the trailer. ;)

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

Especially in a first trailer that's intentionally designed to highlight the action and comedy over the plot.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

^ Indeed. I suspect that the next trailer will be more plot oriented and we will see Mycroft and Moriarty. We got a lot of explosions and action scenes in this movie, and some of Holmes fighting and some comedic bits. It actually does remind me of the first "Sherlock Holmes" trailer we saw for the first one now that I have thought about it and seen it a half dozen times. I think this was one meant to hint at Moriarty rather than expand on him. After all this was just a teaser.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

The required "working on the next installment" even before current installment opens has now surfaced.
Even though the second film is still two months away from opening, Warner Bros. Pictures is moving ahead with development of a third "Sherlock Holmes" says Variety.

This is going to be a lite Holiday season for me so this is among 3-4 films for me I'm eager to see.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

Drew Pearce. Interesting choice...he of course is working with Shane Black and writing the "Iron Man 3" script.

By the way saw the new trailer at the Scream Awards last week and thought it was awesome. The winter season has three or four different movies I'm really excited about as well.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

This movie isn't out yet? I thought it had already come and gone!

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

The first movie came out a couple of years ago; A Game of Shadows will reach theaters in December.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

I know that. I saw it.

But I remember seeing a bunch of advertising for this movie, and then... nothing. I thought it had already come out and faded away. Weird.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

I haven't hardly seen any advertising that wasn't a movie trailer at the theater or tied to an article in an entertainment magazine/website.
What 'blitz' of advertising are you referring to?
The push really will not begin till around Thanksgiving.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

Yeah I haven't seen anything about it either except recent information came in.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

The score has come out and I must say that Hans Zimmer has out done himself. It's going to be in my top three favourite scores of 2011. It feels like an evolution from the first score while still keeping Sherlock's quirky theme in tact. It's fun in places, but also dark and mysterious as well. You can tell Hans probably had a great time writing the music for this film. It also has me extremely excited to hear his finale score for "The Dark Knight Rises" next summer.

Film finally opens on Friday! I won't be going until next Friday to see it then again on Christmas Day night after Turkey. Very much have been looking forward to this. Also have been seeing TV spots like crazy since Thanksgiving so Captain Craig pretty much was right on the button.

^^^ :techman:
I'm planning to see it either Friday or Saturday, depends on a few schedules. Since it opens Friday it's about time for a Review/Discussion thread isn't it?

Nice to hear that the score sounds great. I really enjoyed the music from the first one so it'll be interesting to see what other compositions they've come up with that you allude to as an "evolution" but "still keeping the theme"!!

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

I was going to wait until Friday to start a review and discussion thread. Since this wasn't updated for over a month...I'm sure people might've forgot the film was coming up. With the dead box office, we're entering a period with two or three potential block busters for the winter now.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

I watched the film tonight. A lot better than the first movie, funnier, good action scenes. Drags a little in the middle. I really liked Jared Harris as Moriarty. He doesn't play it larger than life (thank goodness) but he does come across as a worthy adversary, far more than Mark Strong was.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

Maybe I'll start the thread tomorrow then. I forgot there were early showings.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

I'm still very excited for this movie and the trailers have done nothing to dampen that feeling. I won't get to see it opening night, but I've got another friend who's super excited about it and we should hopefully be seeing it Saturday.

Re: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Discussion and News Until Relea

I'm SO stoked! If any movie could dethrone X-Men: First Class as my favorite movie of the year, I think this is the one!

I haven't seen too many TV ads. (But then, I don't watch much broadcast TV any more.) However, the theater at Arizona Mills is full of large stand-up ads & wall ads. It's interesting that they are all of a sudden promoting Irene Adler's return in this movie. I know for a long time Rachel McAdams was saying that she probably wouldn't be in the movie.

My favorite trailer bit is the exchange between Sherlock & Mary Morstan:
"Do you trust me?"
"No."
