Sherlock - BBC ONE & HD - Sunday 25th

I thought it was good too. Interesting take on him, and accurate enough to the character.

I just finished watching it and thought it was fantastic. Was curious about it as I posted a few pages ago but kind of wanted to dislike it but was hooked in the first ten minutes of the episode. I enjoyed everything about the episode. The acting, writing, directing, the Scott Pilgrim like floating text on the screen, the use of Mycroft and the misdirection with that character. I liked Martin Freeman's John Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch's Holmes. Both are adrenaline junkies it would seem. The mention of Moriarty thrilled me. Too bad this is only three episodes. I was reading "Sherlock" 's wikipedia page and it said that Matt Smith auditioned for the part and that Bernard Cumberbatch auditioned for the Eleventh Doctor which I find amusing. As soon as I first saw him I thought he'd make a fantastic Doctor. Excellent episode. I look forward to the next two.

- Mycroft. I knew it must be him not Moriarty as soon as he diverted the CCTV cameras, plus the British Civil Service uniform he wore, but it was great payoff to have it confirmed at the end
"British Civil Service uniform"? wasn't it just a three piece suit?

The 3-piece suit plus the brolly IS the stereotypical historical British Civil Service uniform (actually historically it would have been stroller plus striped trousers, but you get the point). All that was missing was a bowler to flag the character up as being in some sort of governmental role.
I had him pegged as Mycroft because of the brolly and then they started with the misdirection and I began to second guess my elf. Oh well at least I beat Holmes in sussing out the killer.

Liked it over all was impressed with both lead actors, neither of whom I've heard of. Liked the nods to the novels. Interesting stroke of "luck" that Britian was involved in wars in Afgahnistan in both time periods. Cumberbatch was quite good, if a bit Doctor Whoish in spots ( more Tennent than Smith in my opinion) His take also reminded me of Sheldon Cooper from "The Big Bang Theory." A Watson who isn't a doddering fool is always a plus. The updates were well done too: Watson has a blog, Holmes has a website and is 21st Century tech savy.

His take also reminded me of Sheldon Cooper from "The Big Bang Theory."

The "too much" (or whatever it was, exactly) line when he asks why a woman would still be troubled by having had a stillbirth 10 years ago?

The comic timing on that gag was perfect. Very Sheldon.

I've started reading the Sherlock Holmes collection, about 5 chapters in to A Study in Scarlet, did hope to be further through it now but not feeling well and can't seem to concentrate enough to read for very long.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
I have the collection too, But I had to stop reading because of the small print and at the time I could not afford new glasses, now I have new glasses I might start reading it again after I have finished my doctor who books.

It could be because I had other things on my mind, but I did not enjoy this week ep has much as last weeks.

Got back home from an early dinner with friends just after 9, expecting to have only missed a few minutes. So much for that...

Anyway, having missed over half an hour probably didn't help my enjoyment of the episode, but I wasn't terribly impressed with this week. Just didn't seem as inventive/clever as last week's.

Last week was nothing short of Excellent but this week was Average though it got better as it went. The whole case just seem very random and unimportant. Hopefully next week will be back to for the finale though I do look forward for a bigger season 2 as BBC seems to want it back.

Well that was very good again!

I wonder if Watson will ever see Sarah again...

She's in the credit for next week's episode, so that would be a 'yes'. :)

I agree that last week's episode was excellent and this week was just 'good'. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to next week's.

I wish Watson would get a new coat. The shiny shoulder of his current one makes me think he's wearing a donkey jacket...

Anyhoo - yes, it was good but not great this week. Still jolly entertaining, though. And the combination of Gatiss and Chinese Tongs made me giggle as I recalled his turn as Hang Man Chan, The Sinister Bony-Fingered Menace Of The East in Dr Terrible's House Of Horrible a few years back. Hehehehe.

:D
