Shaw's recent art/research projects

A few years ago at Hobbytalk, an individual had overlaid either the Kerr or Casimiro drawings over Shaw's excellent AMT side view.

Has anyone seen that again (I think the image is no longer available there).

First... info and discussion of info all falls under the term research, and is more than fine with me.

Second... I'm short on internet time today, so I'll reply to posts next time I'm online.

Random art stuff... using my models.

Here is my (early) tribute to Starlog's 50th...

and without the text...

This is a look at Star Trek '77 verses Star Trek '78...

Super short on time, so I'm just throwing up what I have on hand for today... which is mostly images of playing with my models.

First, a couple SNW '65 images...

I had also been thinking about what better TOS replacement shots might look like... and what things might not really need replacing. As an example, these two shots (from Tomorrow is Yesterday and Miri) could be improved, but what we see on the bridge view screen could be left alone.

Seeing the Earth/planet sans clouds could be a form of computer enhancement rather than a realistic view.

And on the subject of replacing stuff, here is my take on Mudd's Women...

Honestly, I never understood why TOS-R didn't just use a CGI model of Mudd's original ship. The design isn't that hard to replicate (here are some additional shots of the model used in the original episode), so using a radically different design in TOS-R seemed like an odd choice.

The ship is from Women of the Prehistoric Planet (1966), starring Harry Kim's parents. The effects were done by Howard A. Anderson Company, which is how the model ended up in Mudd's Women.

MST3K did an episode on it that should be available on YouTube.
I suppose it could be that model. Here it is in the film.

The planet seen from space in the movie sure looks like a TOS planet.

This is the first I’ve heard of Mudd’s ship being a model, never mind a known one. I’ve always seen it assumed it was just a shape animated on the view screen, like the Orion and early Klingon ships.

Same. This is not an episode I revisit. The last time I saw the ship in original VFX was on NTSC over the air, I'm pretty sure. So, it was under the originally intended conditions, with all of the originally intended limitations.

Never mind - the ship in the poster for the film looks like the one from This Island Earth, this other design is completely different!

Same here as well. I read somewhere years ago that Mudd's ship was just an animated element and not an actual miniature. If this is it -as it seems to be- then this opens up a whole new area of in-universe speculation about this design and how it fits into the larger TOS Trek universe spaceflight continuity. :)

Come to think of it, wasn't there a TAS design that looked kind of like this ship, except with nacelles and a sensor/deflector dish?
