"Shatnerverse"??

Quark

Ensign
Newbie
Ok, I have just finished reading "The Return" and "Ashes of Eden" by William Shatner, in that order. Is there an order I shoulod read them in? I think there should be because the way they ended it was the other way around. If there is an order, what is the order for the whole series?

Cheers

Ashes of Eden is the first.

the correct order is:

Ashes of Eden
Star Trek: Generations
The Return
Avenger
Spectre
Dark Victory
Preserver
Captain's Peril
Captain's Blood
Captain's Glory

Question: how important is The Ashes Of Eden? I have The Return and I never read it; would it make sense to start there, or should I find Ashes used?

There's nothing to really link Ashes to The Return, though some story elements do show up later in the series.

And even then, as with almost all the Trek books, exposition is provided.

For The Return, it's less important, but it should definitely be read before Avenger.

To me Ashes is the strongest in the series. Partly cos it ties up those loose ends between UC and Generations. It's not really part of the series especially but is a great read.

Ashes is important if only for the major character Kirk encounters that ends up becoming a major part of his life later on.

Capt. Calhoun, you forgot "Collision Course", the most recent entry into the sereis on your list. The one that's Shatner's take on Kirk's academy days that may or may not get a sequel since the new movie is treading on similar territory.

My favorite entry of the series was actually "Preserver", but I've always been fascinated with that part of Star Trek Lore.

i deliberately didn't include it, since I presumed the OP wanted to know about the stories deal with Kirk in the 24th century...

i enjoyed all of the books in the first 2 trilogy installments. Ashes may be my favorite of all of them. I had a hard time getting into the 3rd though. It did have a slow start and did eventually get better. But i agree with everyone above saying that you dont necessarily need to read ashes before the return, but i recommend you do just to catch what events led up to Kirk being on the Enterprise B

The funny part about those books were that I had The Return for such a long time, and never read it. One day I did and didnt think anything of a sequel(i didnt pay attention to the back cover saying James T Kirk will return in...) I found Avenger and read it, then Spectre and Dark Victory. THEN I found out that Ashes of Eden came before any of them. I quickly bought that one and re read them all. I havent gotten Collision Course yet, due to the lack of interest i had in reading the Captains Peril, Blood and Glory. Is there going to be a next part to collision course about Jims days at the academy? Ive seen the comic version of his Kobayashi Maru Test and thought that was cool. I dunno, If you all can enlighten me I may go pick it up.

No follow up has been announced. TBH, I read Collission Course and thought it was dreadful. YMMV.
