Shatnerverse: Trial Run

What he said.

And yet Shatner and the Reeves-Stevens also portrayed young Jimmy Kirk as a hotheaded smartmouth. I thought that was one of your main complaints about JJ's "Star Trek"?

No. The complaint was that young, undisciplined Jim Kirk went from Cadet to Captain of the flagship without any type of seasoning. Prime universe Jim Kirk grew and evolved into the leader we see on Star Trek. This Jim Kirk went from the mailroom to CEO because he spotted a check for a billion dollars going out the door. :guffaw:

Plus, Shatner's Kirk started out as a good kid who went through a major trauma, went rebel for a while, and eventually found his way back to being that same idealistic kid with a lot more life experience under his belt, and worked his way up the ranks.

Pine's Kirk, on the other hand, was a punk from the beginning and was still a punk at the end. In short, they handed the keys to Starfleet's biggest and baddest ship over to a smartass punk kid I wouldn't trust with a potato gun.
