Shatner's Voice in the movie.

MichaelStivic

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Not literally.

But did anyone notice that the scene on the ice-planet when Scotty asked Kirk and Spock if they were from the future and Kirk answered off-camera, "He is, I'm not" the delivery sounded exactly like Shatner. I know it was just a short, short sentence, but it immediately brought to mind the way Shatner-Kirk would sometimes say things with this jabby little flourish.

Loved it. I think Pine captured Kirk perfectly and although he's not trumping it up, did find ways to bring Shatner's portrayal to us in subtle, not in-your-face ways.

What sold it for me was the final scene, when Kirk says, "Bones..." The way he says it, and exits the turbolift, he became Kirk at that moment. I guess it's the little things that make or break a character.

Totally agree on this one! As soon as he walked on the bridge he was in 'Kirk mode' but as soon as he spoke Bones's name? Sealed the deal right there!

Yes!! That was stuck in my mind as such a defining "Kirkian" moment for Pine and his Kirk......

Pine also does a great facial expression of Shatners kirk right before his fight at the bar.

One I noticed is during the Kirk\Spock scene on Spock Prime's ship near the end, Pine starts a sentence with a very Shatner-like delivery of "Spock": strong emphasis on the "Sp" and a slightly drawn out "ock". Pine did a great job of capturing many of the nuances of Shatner's Kirk without coming off as cheesy or being an imitation.

I completely agree!!! He had the inflection just right!! I got chills in the theater!!

There was at least one other moment when he sounded so much like Shatner's Kirk but I can't recall which one it was. I do think he sounded the least like the original of all the crew, but that's okay.

I got the exact same feeling while he and Sulu were on the platform and Pine said both "Kirk to Enterprise" and "Kirk out."

The tone, the intonation, sealed the deal.

Joe, sold

There were several instances in which Pine made expressions that perfectly channeled Shatner...I admit, it gave me chills.

I said the same thing in another thread. I liked Pine as Kirk but the ending scene when he walks off the turbo lift. His delivery. His swagger. He was Kirk. Up until then it was all about Urban and Quinto nailing their respective character. But Pine sealed the deal at the very end.:techman::techman:

He also does it well when McCoy injects him with the antivirus to take him on the shuttle. The moment when he drags him to the shuttle, Pine does an excellent Kirk expression and voice.

Well, he does a bit of Shatner's superfast delivery at one point during the Kobyashi Maru, and it's almost parody - as if this is young Kirk's deliberately theatrical imitation of a swaggering leader. I noticed it the second time through; it's quite the laugh.

What was it that the Borg said about resistance?

But yes Pine became Kirk @ the end, was a great moment. There were a lot of those moments.

The final scene with Chris Pine sitting in the captain's chair with his legs crossed, the exact position that Kirk used to sit in - that was the perfect finishing touch. I half expected McCoy to crack a joke about something and get the whole bridge crew laughing, like so many episodes ended.

I agree the moment he said it I said "that's like Shatner"

It doesn't matter if this is an AU/different timeline it's the same Kirk...........unless its the mirror verse ;)

Anyone notice the apple he's eating during the kobyashi maru test. In WOK in the genesis cave he's munching on an apple explaining how he defeated the test... I love that attention to detail.

Exactly..I thought it was a Shatner voice over it was so good and authentic.

Right on. I smiled when I saw that. I wonder if it was scripted or Pine or Abrams thought of him sitting like that as an homage to Shatner's Kirk.

Also, when he looked up after Uhura cracked "I sure hope you know what you're doing...Captain."

Very Shatner look.
