Shortly after his second retirement, Kirk was an honored guest at the launch of the Excelsior-class Starship Enterprise-B in 2293. Kirk was believed killed on that ship's maiden voyage, although it was later learned that he had actually disappeared into a temporal anomaly called the nexus. He remained in the nexus until 2371, when he emerged to save the inhabitants of the Veridian system. Kirk, working with fellow Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard, was successful in saving the Veridians, but the heroic effort supposedly cost Kirk his life at the hand of the deranged scientist,

The new movie drops Kirk in a new reality where he is the father of the now the younger James Tiberius Kirk played by Chris Pine and, and, and,.....

You guys laugh, but knowing JJ Abrams style I still haven't completely discounted a Shatner appearance in the film.

I think it would be neat for Shatner to have a cameo as Kirk's father, but my concern since Shatner is such a well known figure that seeing him play Kirk's dad would pull me right out of the movie. However, if they used make up, maybe have him grow a beard or something, so he's not QUITE so recognizable in the role, it could possibly work out very nicely. Alas, as my signature states though, it doesn't appear as though Shatner would be open to a cameo alternative.

I suggested the same thing a few threads back, only I imagined him as his grandfather; Being his father may be a streatch, I don't care how far Viagra has come in the future. Besides, everyone seemed to be of the opinion that Shatner wasn't interested in a mere cameo, so I'll belive it when I see it. Except the whole father thing; That I'll never belive, I don't care how far weed has come by december.

Shatner was willing to do ENT, but quibbled on price.

But Nichelle Nichols also turned down her VOY cameo, wanting a meatier role (ie. a walk-on scene rather than a viewscreen one).
