Shatner STILL wants to play Kirk..

Believe me I've been in the 'Shatner should come back one more time' crowd for years now!

I had an idea for a New Voyages/Continues episode set in the Nexus where Young Kirk would be showing Old Kirk events in his life, in a Wonderful Life/Christmas Carol-type thing. A Discovery Nexus thing could be interesting!

If they have the right story they have to do it quick. More likely in the Kelvin Universe with Shatner as Old Pine than Kirk Prime, as suggested for Orci’s ST13. He was going to be Mirror ‘Tiberius’ or the Chef (a doppleganger who Daniels plucks out of time to stand in for Kirk at an historical event) in Enterprise S4 but I think there were money issues, so In A Mirror Darkly was made instead.

This conversation has taken place so many times since 1994, but all roads lead to a brick wall. Is its a curse? But just outside of Trek:

Over night I've been thinking and The Orville may be Bills best option. Have him as Captain Jase C Burke, flagship Captain on his last mission, just about to retire. A lauded hero who the ladies swoon for. Taking the Mick out of Shatner's image but not too much and a respectful homage. Ed is skeptical but ends up respecting Burke.

Maybe by the end of the episode Burke finds a new purpose in life, so effectively a better finale than Generations.

Kirk in all but name. If he does any of the above I want him on a ship in Starfleet/Planetary Union uniform one last time!!

You know, that could work. Kinda like Buster Crabbe showing up on the old BUCK ROGERS tv show or Adam West playing an aging crime-fighter on BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. Or John Carradine popping up as an aging horror star on an old episode of McCLOUD.

THE ORVILLE is a nostalgic valentine to old-time Trek anyway, so a tongue-in-check tribute to Shatner would possibly work better there than on an actual Trek show . . ..

Shatner would be awesome in Orville. Just say he's the most famous Starship captain of all time, now retired and all is good. Also, he can do that big musical number about getting out of spacedock that he's wanted for 25 years.

Trying to get him into any current version of Trek requires dimension or time hopping, undoing a death and all sorts of silliness.

I have wanted more Shat since 1994, but I just don't see how you could do it on Discovery, and with JJ Trek films all but dead time is running out for a big screen return.

I think, sadly, Kirk Prime is done.

No offense, but I must confess that I am sick and tired of hearing about The Orville like it's Trek. This thread is about Captain Kirk. The Orville is about as relevant as saying "wouldn't Jimmy Doohan have been great in Galaxy Quest?".

video from this wkend he talks about it and about him being scanned into VR so maybe he could appear in a movie at any age via CG

Like the original topic, this is about Shatner. But, if you're going to bump the thread with it, there really ought to be more of a connection than that. If there's going to be an "Any old random news about William Shatner" thread, it should be called that, and it should probably be started in a different forum.
