Shatner upset Takei didn't invite him to wedding

LOS ANGELES – William Shatner is setting his phaser to stun against his old "Star Trek" co-star George Takei. In a video posted on Shatner's Web site Wednesday, he lashed out at Takei for not inviting him to his wedding last month.
The 77-year-old Kirk said Takei, who played Enterprise helmsman Sulu, apparently harbors a grudge against him that kept him from being invited to Takei's nuptials.
"The whole thing makes me feel badly," Shatner said in the video. "Poor man. There is such a sickness there. It's so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. I don't know what his original thing about me was. I have no idea."
Takei and Brad Alman tied the knot Sept. 15. "Star Trek" alums Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig — who played Uhura and Chekhov, respectively — were among the attendees at the multicultural ceremony at the Japanese American National Museum. Takei and Altman had previously stated that Shatner was invited to their wedding, but he never RSVPed.
"It is unfortunate that Bill was unable to join us for our wedding as he indeed was invited to attend," Takei responded. "It is our hope that at this point he joins us in voting no on Proposition 8, which seeks to eliminate the fundamental right for same-sex couples to marry in California."
Shatner said he felt he never knew Takei when they worked together on the original TV series and later in the "Star Trek" films.
The "Boston Legal" co-star also attacked Takei's decision to come out of the closet later in life, saying "Who cares? Be gay. Don't be gay. That's up to you, George."

Shatner's a douchebag who always has to be the center of attention. He can't even let George have his moment, or let JJ Abrams make the movie he wants to make.
Frankly I'm surprised he didn't spout off on James Doohan for getting headlines when he died.

Bad enough I had to do an article on this.

But then I have to come in here and you don't even quote my article?

Did Shatner ever invite Takei to any of his weddings?

I dunno Shatner may have a high opinion of himself but at least he has a sense of hunour. Takei seems to be the one who simply can't let go of hating the Shat.

Who cares? Shatner and Takei aren't buddies, they are fellow employees on a TV show (or movie). I didn't even go to my own sister's wedding and we get along fine. Both these guys have enormous rods up their butts (but only one of them put it there willfully).

I almost can't believe that people find any fault whatsoever with Shatner finally making one to-the-point, terse statement in response to Takei. Good for Bill - it was overdue.

Takei takes a shot at him every chance he gets ... THAT is sad.

We get it - he doesn't like Shatner ... wow. He just can't let it go!

Bottom line: The only reason Takei has any work today is because of Howard Stern - and if he didn't play up the gay thing (again, talk about sad), and opine about Shatner negatively, I have a feeling he wouldn't be there.

Right or wrong (though I certainly feel right), there's nothing wrong with Bill's responding to Takei.

Besides the fact that this thread is a duplicate, Shat is an ass... always has been. There is a REASON people can't stand the guy... he's a total jerk. I hated every time I had to work with or speak to him. He was rude to people unnecessarily and constantly. I think the only people who like him are those who never had to work with him.

He's never been anything but professional when I've been around him. Besides, if Takei hadn't made a public deal out of not inviting Shatner none of this would be news. Takei deserved everything Shatner said.

I really like Mr. Takei, but truthfully... Enough. The guy is relentless in his Shat-bashery. And it's been going on for years. I'm not surprised the Shat felt the need to poke back at least once.
The problem is, that sound bites from some of the supporting cast members aren't quotable and won't make it into the press unless there's some dirt there about the real Star(s) of Star Trek, and that's good 'ol Bill, who is still enjoying a successful acting career.
So it's not surprising that this kinda mud-slinging is frequently included in the things Takei says.
The Shatman is right. Let it go dude. It makes him seem like he's still riding coattails if he feels the need to evoke Shatner's name all the time to get any attention. It seems that way whether it's true or not.
My 2 coppers.

More and more Takei just looks like a guy who had a mediocre career, thought he deserved a stellar one, and just has to have someone to blame for it. Someone besides himself, that is.

Which kind of fits the pattern of the whole TOS Shatner-Basher brigade. They all seem to have one thing in common – jealousy of Shatner’s success. Those who performed at the same level as Shatner – Nimoy, Kelley, etc. – don’t seem to have any problems with him.

George, if these perceived "wrongs" Shatner did to you decades ago are really still tormenting you, get professional help. OTOH, if you just keep bringing them up as a play for publicity, knock it off. We're bored.

Shatner's/Takei's relationship should be bottled, with the label, "Two wrongs".
Oh, I don't know about that. From what I can see, it appears that Shatner's been content to just pretty much ignore Takei for the most part since they last worked together many years ago, which he is certainly entitled to do. After all, they're not bosom buddies. They just happened to work together on a TV show forty years ago, and they've appeared in a few movies together.

Takei, OTOH, can't seem to stop foaming at the mouth - publicly - at the very mention of Shatner's name. ;)

Besides, if Takei hadn't made a public deal out of not inviting Shatner none of this would be news.

When did Takei say that Shatner wasn't invited?

As far as I can tell doing some digging around on the web, Takei never did say it at least not in the way it's being interpreted by the media and Shatner. This is a George Takei quote that I found of what he actually said:

"The best man is my colleague from Star Trek, Walter Koenig, who played Chekov, and the matron of honour is Nichelle Nichols. And Leonard (Nimoy) and his wife Susan are on the (guest) list.... We have only 200 seats.... Our contact list has, like, 3,500 names, so we have to whittle it down and I don't know if William Shatner is going to make the cut."

They took what he said out of context and made it sound a lot worse than it actually was. In the end, Shatner did end up getting invited but he did not RSVP.
