Shatner/Koenig/Columbo

I would have loved to have seen a crossover episode between Columbo and Perry Mason.

Or would that have meant the end of the universe?

I'd love to see Peter Falk guest-star as Columbo on Monk. The ultimate fastidious detective meets the ultimate sloppy detective. That would be a hoot.

Then I doubt it. All things considered, it's a wonder Detective John Munch(Richard Belzer)has been in so many series crossovers from different studios. A very rare exception.

My mistake then. For some reason the Columbia-Tristar logo popped into my head when MONK was mentioned. I get my studio logos on DVD packaging confused sometimes.

Ricardo Montalban made the mistake of commitiing murder when Columbo was on vacation south of the border. It was the bullfighting episode.

Actually, I liked it when Columbo was out of his jurisdiction, and had to work with the local authorities. There was a good one aboard a cruise liner with Robert Vaughn (I think Mrs C was seasick the whole episode), and Columbo in London was hilarious when he came up against Scotland Yard and needed to look vaguely smart to get into a gentleman's club. Of course this was the Hollywood depiction of London, all Bobbies and Bowler Hats, and the minute you step outside the range of stock footage it all looks like Southern California.

As laughable as the episode of The Six Million Dollar Man entitled "Outrage at Ballinderry" then?

Set in 1970s Northern Ireland (in an actual named location, a bit of boggy ground near Portadown), the filming location was a small French town surrounded by desert and all the British troops were dressed for D-Day

The final episode of COLUMBO during its original NBC run(1978)was about Irish IRA supporters funneling arms and cash back to Northern Ireland. The killer/villain was a famed Irish poet played by actor Clive Revill, who ironically was also the original hologram of Emperor Palpatine in the very first 1980 edition of THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. So not only was he a COLUMBO killer and an Irish stereotype, but he also went on to be an evil Sith Master!

Heh, my sister (who is a fan of Columbo and Diagnosis Murder (still have to tell her about the episode where Dick Van Dyke is a murderer!)) mentioned that, but it sounds a lot more interesting the way you put it.

To clarify, Revill was the voice of the Emperor in TESB, but not the face. I think Lucas used some very old woman as the face of the Emperor.

And I wouldn't say Revill's character in that Columbo installment was a stereotype. Certainly not a blatant one. He was certainly one of the more interesting and charming adversaries Columbo faced, one of those killers that Columbo actually rather liked and regretted arresting.

True. The Emperor's face was a combination of a skinny, elderly lady's(someone at Lucasfilm or Fox) and the superimposed eyes of a chimpanzee tinted yellow.

The Van Dyke episode is great. He's a photographer who offs his irritating, scheming wife and then tries to pin it on a recently released ex-con he knows.

THAT would be an interesting episode, being as I often call Monk the modern Columbo!

Wouldn't it though? I loved Columbo.

I watched Monk faithfully until he got the new sidekick. I lost the heart for it after that.

Monk is good, but Columbo was in a class by himself. If I ever need to kill my wife, I'll just watch a couple Columbos until I decide which way would be best for me..

Just don't get Robert Culp or Patrick McGoohan to do it or help you. You'll be screwed in less than 90 minutes without commercials. :)
