Shatner cameo role poll

About the only thing I could see is with closing credits, the voice-over by Shatner from TOS. Sort of like Spock's voice-over at the end of the Wrath of Khan (I think).

That might be :censored: 'n cool!

For those of you who said you would only approve if Bill Shatner were cast as James Kirk in Star Trek 11, would you change your mind and approve it if he were cast as an alien so that you did not know it was him until you read his name in the closing credits? For example, Mark Lenard (Sarek [Spock's Father] and a Romulan Commander in TOS) was cast as the Klingon Captain in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" but you did not know it was him (Mark Lenard) until you read his name in the closing credits due to all the make-up/prosthetics and his lines were redubted in Klingon by James Doohan (Scotty). So would you approve if Shatner were cast as say a TOS Tellerite Captain and his lines were redubted in the Tellerite native language (Telleritese?) by another actor so that you would not know it was Shatner until you read his name in the closing credits?

Would you approve if George Takei (Sulu) were cast in Star Trek 11 as the Admiral (Admiral Nogura perhaps) that dealt with young Lt. Kirk cheating on the Kobayashi Maru test?

Here's a question: If as expected Shatner is not in this film, do you want to hear Pine do the fabled "Space, the final frontier..." monolouge at the end of this film?

The point would be that it is a hidden Easter Egg that a Star Trek fan would enjoy and appreciate. Wasn't that the point in 1979 with Mark Lenard as the Klingon Captain in TMP. I enjoyed the surprise of discovering it was him underneath all that make-up.

I sincerely don't think it's any crime whatsoever for william Shatner to play a role other than Jim Kirk. I mean, I've got it out for everyone in the damn movie for not hiring Paul McGillon for the sole of Scotty. So if Paul can have a role in the film other than the screamingly logical role he should have gotten then, damnit, Bill Shatner can play an Academy Admiral.

:brickwall:

Everything about this film so far has taken some effort to get used to.

I always thought it would be great if Shatner were seen in a Starfleet lounge (or just any old space bar), giving a performance of "Beyond the Rim of Starlight" in typical Shatner style, flanked by Orion dancing girls (but only really in the background of the shot).
But with all the whining he's doing about not being in the movie (which I find very unclassy), I doubt he'd go for something like that, even though I think it would be right up his alley.

Just because we can do a thing, does not mean we should do a thing.

At this point I hope he's not in the movie for spite given all the pissing and moaning he's been doing. And certainly not as another character. That'll just confuse the shit out of people.

Was that really an easter egg though? I thought they just hired him to hire him for a job, not to sneak Spocks father in. More interesting that hes played a member of 3 of the most iconic Trek aliens.

Joe Blow From Kokomo : Who is this Shatner fellow and why should I care ?

Me : I don't want to have to hold these folks hands for 2 hours in order for them to understand this movie.

I hate to vote no. But only due to the premise. If they bring back Shatner, as Kirk, I'm all for that.

I agree, but I don't see how they can bring Kirk back without the element of time travel, but I don't want this movie to be about time travel.

Maybe you could have some sort of communication device that spans time, and they communicate to one another, but that would mean Shatner would have to look as old or younger than he did in Generations, which is just about impossible. The other way is the alternate universe, but that seems to only work concurrently (like a young Kirk would meet his young Kirk counterpart).

It's just too much work to fit him in.

As a disciple of the one, true Shat, I disapprove. If he is not to reprise his original role with Nimoy doing the same thing, then I really don't see the point.

It just isn't worth it. Even if he did it for free. I like Shat as much as the next guy, but the Shat ship has SAILED. Many years ago. Everybody wave bye-bye to it as it disappears over the horizon.

I think it would just to weird and distracting to have him in a film playing anyone but Kirk.

I vote no.

Shatner should get one good return as Kirk and thenaafter that we'll see.
He should get a happy ending and be allowed to live out the rest of his life peacefully.
Shatner should also have appeared on Enterprise as an alternate Universe version of Kirk that helps out 22nd Century Earth. He could have popped in once or twice a season to give Archer and Co. some help. He could tweak and bend the Prime Directive once in awhile to help out Earth as he would know how dangerous it is out there..
