Shatner cameo role poll

I recall reading that there is a scene in Star Trek 11 of young Lt. Kirk taking the Kobayashi Maru test on the bridge simulator. If that is true then JJ Abrams could cast Bill Shatner in a cameo role as a Starfleet Admiral initially rebuking the young Lt. Kirk for cheating on the test. Then later have Admiral Shatner giving Lt. Kirk a commendation for original thinking by reprogramming the simulator so that he rescued the crew and passengers of the Kobayashi Maru ship, winning the "No Win" scenario. We would get to see Bill Shatner in a TOS Starfleet Uniform one last time, not as Kirk, but as another character. This would please the fans without violating canon, wouldn't it? So I have posted this poll to see if fans would approve or not.

Stunt casting? No. It would only draw away from the story. All of a sudden the film says, LOOKIE ME! I'M A MOVIE!

Either option won't effect my view of the movie, but please! Kirk's dead! Shat's fat! Just leave him in the grave!

We need a poll option that says, "I'm sick of people constantly trying to think of ways to get Shatner into this movie."

They should have Shatner back... but only to do the voice-overs when Pine is making an entry in the Captain's Log! Heck, Shatner could even give the "Where no man has gone before..." monologue.

Alright, I'm joking -- but, honestly, that's got to be one of the more underrated things about Shatner's performance as Kirk over the years. Not necessarily how he delivered his lines (which has been well-documented... and parodied) but simply how he sounded. When I hear Shatner's voice, I think Trek. Not many other Trek actors can do that for me.

Shatner should play the bloated corpse of James T. Kirk that Spock brought back from Veridian III, had embalmed and installed in a glass tank of formaldehyde in his living room... right between that cheesy gold sequin IDIC mural and half slivered infinity mirror box from TWOK.

That would please the fans. We could all shout out collectively in the theater, "Hey, there's that cheesy gold sequin IDIC mural and half slivered infinity mirror box from TWOK!"

I hate to vote no. But only due to the premise. If they bring back Shatner, as Kirk, I'm all for that.

I'll glady accept Shatner as James T. Kirk, but I don't want him to play any other character in Star Trek XI.

What if it's like The Big Lebowski, and he just happens to be someone who has the exact same name as Chris Pine's character?

Causing someone to desecrate Pine's rug by mistake? Surely then it's okay. :)

Totally. While I appreciate the OP's sentiment, I think shoving Shatner into the movie just for the sake of having him in there would be a disaster. JJ Abrams himself has said so. It would be incredibly cheesy, IMHO.

And for the record, all this talk of "would this please the fans without violating canon?" talk needs to stop. I don't give a flying rat's ass about Star Trek fans and their canon. :bolian:

He should play James T. Kirk. Keep him out of the movie if he is going to play Admiral Joe Blow or whoever.
