sharlto copley -- amazing first-time actor

looked him up on imdb and apparently District 9 was his first movie acting role, and apparently he improvised the majority of his lines -- wtf? any new roles in store for this guy?

"Howling Mad" Murdock in the upcoming A-Team movie.

And I think he's the most inspired and brilliant acting choice. Even against heavyweight Liam Neeson, who I'm probably most skeptical about.

He's definitely got a cool name. :techman:

(and no, District 9 wasn't his first role, there was something called Alive in Joburg that came before that.)

Alive in Joburg is a two or three minute short that was actually the basis for District 9. It's his feature debut.

Yeah, he was great. Can't wait for District 10,
Where I'm sure he'll get back to human form so we can see him act.

He basically got the role in both the short and the feature film because he's a real life friend of Blomkamp, which makes his tour de force all the more impressive.

part of what made District 9 so amazing was that there were no big name actors. Having everyone appear unscripted, and not recognizing anyone made for a truly immersive story . . . otherwise we'd be remarking at how Bruce Willis has aged, or how Wil Smith has done too many sci-fi blockbusters, or whatsisname always seems to get type-cast etc
just throwing names out, but really, having established genre actors in D9 would have impeded the cinéma vérité style
