SGU Comic Con Panel

“The first thing we did was make a blood pact that we would not have rubber-faced, English speaking aliens in the first season!” Cooper said.
How about not having them at all??

Well as long as you're paying for the show, they're already spending a million more per ep. then they did on Atlantis.

While at the MGM party on the rooftop of San Diego's Salomar hotel last Thursday night — where a Stargate was projected on the bottom of the pool and the SGU symbol was projected on the side of a building across the street — 'Stargate' major domo Brad Wright revealed to CinemaSpy that the third series in the 'Stargate' franchise, Stargate Universe, had an episodic budget fully $1M beyond what had been available when shooting Stargate Atlantis.

That's $1 million. It's a staggering sum to add over and above the previous show's budget. But it demonstrates the faith that MGM has in Wright, writer/producer Rob Cooper, and indeed, the 'Stargate' franchise itself.

I can't see that lasting for very long.;)

Yeah I can't see that lasting very long either. It will probably be better funded than either SG-1 or Atlantis though, if only because they're focusing on only one show at a time

Nevermind the fact it's on the air 15 years later than SG-1's early episodes so the US dollar is next to worthless.

However maybe they will make the show short, like 3 seasons, but tell the writers for one and end the show instea dof huge budget costs.

I'm going to assume that the clip is blocked out for Canadians... because, I have no faith in the Internet anymore.

But did they actually talk about the storytelling in more than just simple "it's going to be darker" platitudes?

^ They went out of their way to refute the early, online fandom concerns-fueled by their own initial statements, that the show would embrace the gritty darkside, and stressed that SGU would still possess the humor present in the previous 2 shows, and wouldn't be all gloom and doom.

There are some audience recorded (camcorder) video segments posted to You Tube, if you want to see a bit of what went on.

I'm Canadian, and I watched it just fine.

Hrm, I'll check it out when I have some time then.

And, hopefully they meant it won't be dark and gritty and then have a random Simpson's joke in the middle.

Well, they have a Star Wars joke in the middle. ;)

It's supposed to be darker and grittier than the past 2 series, but it won't be as grim as BSG.

I'm very thankful of that. A good balance of the two would be nice.

I watched the entire thing, pretty interesting, my hopes are actually up about the show right now.
