SG-U – Air part 3 (1x03) - (Live Commentary | SPOILERS)

One episode in, and they are already stealing plot devices from Sliders? This is clearly a tornado attracted to their electronic devices, as seen in "Electric Twister Acid Test."

All that's missing is the Corey Feldman guest appearance...

Hehehe They couldn't make it work in the episode, but the original script of that Sliders episode featured upside down tornadoes. There wasn't really a logical reason to it; I suppose it was just some kind of random idea to make it "sci-fi".

So what do you think happened to the ones who went to that other planet.

Playing my own speculative game of 2+2, I fear we may have another level of rip-off in the making. So the Destiny locked out five gate address; and at least one of those addresses was a vegetative world with water that seemed nice on the surface. The address the Destiny marked as safe was a dry, dead, desert world seemingly devoid of water and planet life.

Add the above to the idea that those two characters did not die and we will be seeing them again (likely in a bad way).

And lastly, multiply this by the Stargate staple that we haven't seen yet. Where is the sleeping big bad enemy that was awakened or unleashed through human exploration?

What do you get? The Flood. A parasitic plant lifeform that infects and possesses people in a kind of hive mind; and while very hard to kill, conditions on a desert world would not be conducive to maintaining its organic nature. I think we'll see those two characters again, but they'll be villains. And the little ship that broke off the Destiny? Well, the mortal enemy of the Flood was the Covenant; a fanatical group of aliens who have built their culture on worshiping ancient "forerunners" who also left behind enormous amounts of technology that the Covenant have been able to pick up and use in lieu of creating their own technology...

There is no major big-bad planned for SGU.

I'm sure villains will surface from time to time, but the writers aren't planning for a major villain to feature throughout the series like the Gou'ald or the Replicators (please God, no Replicators on SGU!).

Of course, plans can change.

as for the ship flying off at the end, I could have sworn we saw that same vessel on the first visual sweep over the ship. It was further back than the shuttles, and larger.
I think I saw that too. If it is alien, I wonder how long it's been attached to Destiny. A few, a couple hundred years or hundreds of thousands?

This ship came up and out of a docking port. Doors opened and it came up and out. It wasn't attached. Entry and exit suggests familiarity with the technology, and if it's been in that bay since the last time it was not moving faster than light, then it's not crewed by living beings. That makes me think it is some kind of auto retrieval shuttle, or that it is heading back to the Milky Way, for some reason?

The orange exhaust plume is curious though.

Watch it again. There are no doors of any kind that open, nor any port. It is merely resting on top of the ship.

Back to the communication stones...These are being depicted as 2 way, as in the s5 Atlantis episode 'Identity'. Previously, in the 3 SG1 eps, they were one way, the person being possessed was unconscious for the duration. Last week we saw Rush swap over with Dr Lee. So what did Lee do while in Rush's body?

The Colonel walked around in Young's body demanding to know what was going on. The first time, despite the fact that Young was suffering from a concussion. The medic put him down with a tranquilizer so he wouldn't endanger Young's health.

This was because they only had the stones/terminal on one end, you need stones on both ends to make a two-way connection. This is actually established way back in the SG-1 episodes you mention, so isn't a retcon

Last week we saw Rush swap over with Dr Lee. So what did Lee do while in Rush's body?

This however, is a good question.
