Australia lost a freaking PRIME MINISTER once. Went right on with business.
Well, considering not a whole lot happened I quite enjoyed this.
On the subject of Eli being the kind of American non Americans don't like...WTF? He's pleasant, polite, intelligent and funny; definitely the most likeable member of the cast (and I'm British).
I think I might be alone here because my second favorite so far is Greer, I think he's brilliant.
Rush will grow on me, and I loved that he told Greer to shoot the guy, then went through the stargate and immediately shouts "Greer shot him!" Fantastic.
The rest are pretty meh so far. Blonde medic has potential, and I like the colonel even though he's fairly bland. Hero Lt is, well quite heroic but I like his back story...I love that people don't think he should have one, or that SGU character's all seem to have dysfunctional ones whereas other SG shows didn’t. Given O’Neill’s back story, Daniel’s, T’Ealc…etc etc I don’t think this is true.
The Christian imagery didn’t bother me, my take was that the sand twisters were an alien life form of some kind using the Lt’s beliefs to communicate with him, that’s all.
I worried that I’d somehow missed what had happened to the two who went through the gate, glad this show is leaving things for later episodes.

On second viewing, I'm beginning to like Greer. He's an asshole, sure, but he seems to be an asshole with a history. Not only that, but once he's given someone his protection, he's as loyal as can be. That's a good characteristic in my book.
I also don't understand the Eli comments. To me, he doesn't seem like the "American all non-Americans hate". He's not uberfat, is he? He's also not ignorant, nor dumb, nor bringing guns everywhere. So no, I like him just fine, thank you.

Oh please. Who on SGU could be described that way? Greer? And even if you claim he is that's only one character.
It was mediocre, but what good of it there was involved flawed people (which was sadly very rare).
with every episode i'm hating and hating that black bitchy character more and more. wtf, he's got a permanent pms or something? he's become quite irritating to watch just bitching about everything on the verge of shooting people. hope he dies soon or gets a major attitude change or some midol.

I liked the episode and the series shows a lot of potential. I like Rush because Robert Carlyle's a good actor and not the Full Monty kind of character as I feared when they released the cast. I can't take Eli seriously as he's kinda immature imo. Chloe doesn't seem to have much to do as of yet. Greer is kinda interesting as you don't know what he's capable of and he will likely have an interesting character arc. I haven't formed an opinion about the rest of the characters yet.
I really like Rush. There's no question that Carlyle is the most capable actor on the show.

I have to say that I'm enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would. I like Rush a lot and Greer interests me. I'm onboard, no doubt about it, and I'm someone who dropped out of Atlantis.
I liked the episode, and was glad they continued off where the last episode ended. I do worry there are too many "main" characters to juggle. As others stated Ming Na was hardly in the episode.
Again I loved Scott and Eli. Hate Chloe even more, and could really careless about her mom. At this point I also hate Greer, but I think that is a good thing. A show needs to be mixed, with characters you love and hate.

Just watched 3 episodes back to back and I enjoyed them. The second episode slumped a little for me, though. It takes me ages to get to grips with characters on new shows but I liked Young and Eli. I really didn't take to Chloe. I thought that there were loads of interesting possibilities with issues that could be raised. Hope they do some of them.

I thought this was going to be a sort of Lost in Space/Voyager kind of show but instead it seems to be a spiritual successor to Space 1999. I hope they encounter interesting pheonomena and not just some Goa'uld/Ori/Wraith sort of baddies.

Their mixture of flash backs/communications stones/more flashbacks had me confused at times as to what was meant to be going on when.
Add to the obligatory 'troubled past' stuff. Yawnsville.
Some silly plots, like giving a kid a gun... just becaues they don't trust Dr Smith. That doesn't make sense.
And Scott is walking through the dessert. With black clothes. And cap. And did he once strip down and pour water over his chest to cool down? Did he hell! I hate this show.

^ The actual difference between colours in that sort of climate would be minimal at best, that particular primary school science lesson is often drawn out to make conclusions which are a bit too sweeping. Far more important is what the material is - and it's likely that's all he had with him that was vaguely suitable. And wearing a black cap is better than no cap in desert sunlight. And stripping down in desert sun? bad plan. You want to cover as much skin as possible - and they're on water rationing, they don't have the luxury of pouring it over themselves.
