SG-A The Shrine (reviews, comments eh?

Did anybody watch Stargate Atlantis 8-22 or was we all yakking about cancellations and Universes???

I just finished watching it and I freaking loved it.

Best Episode of Atlantis I've seen since Elizabeth in the Leather suit on the Replicator ship. (I'm terrible with titles)

It was pretty good. Definitely in the top 3 of this season.

Luckily for Rodney, he didn't go full retard.

Brilliant episode! I also thought it was great that they brought up the MALP issue. I always wondered why SG1 would frequently use a MALP when facing the unknown but apparently Atlantis doesn't.

Very well acted, especially by David Hewlett, and I hate to admit it, but I'm liking Woolsey more and more.

It was brilliant acting all-around. I FELT something. And when a show makes me feel something, that means they are doing something right. :techman:

I watched it and I loved it.

Hewlett was great in this one, but then he's good most of the time.

And I don't know about you guys, but the more I watch Woolsey as leader of Atlantis, the more I like him.

I thought i would hate Woolsey but i find the more episodes i see the more i like him.
Even the uniform not looking so bad as it did.

Atlantis has very, very rarely made me feel anything.

"Unrealised potential" is its middle name.

I almost (almost) cried last night when Rodney ran to Sheppard's room, terrified of what he was forgetting. Magnificent acting from two actors who promise more than they deliver. Simply stunning. My favourite moment on Atlantis so far.

I agree, Atlantis has so much untapped potential. And same here, a lot of the scenes with Rodney almost brought tears to my eyes, he was great in this episode, and even the fact that there seemed to be so much of an unspoken bond between him and Ronan was a nice touch, after what happened in Tao of Rodney.

I loved it, especially the final shot of Keller tearing up. It falls a little shy of true greatness because it's Rodney and you know they'd never truly endanger him. I almost wish that they did this with Ronon because it would've been so DIFFERENT and unexpected and because Rodney has already had an episode like this, but oh well. For what we got, it was very good and very poignant.

I loved the little character moments. The fact that Rodney told Keller how he felt makes the way she acted towards him very understandable. That, along with Rodney running to Sheppard's room, elevated this epsidode abover the vast majority. The only thing that would've been even better is if they had scenes with Zalenka and Carson saying goodbye. There just wasn't enough time I guess, and it makes me wish that these things should be 50 minutes instead of 42-44 minutes.

Oh, and I too am liking Woolsey more and more.

Robert Picardo still manages to work his magic by adding layers upon layers of substance to a guy we all thought we already knew.

I had a feeling that when they announced him as the new Base Commander of Atlantis that he'd manage to make many of the initial detractors to Woolsey in such a position do a respectable about-face. Glad to see many are starting to warm to him as I have myself.

I'm really looking forward to Keller/McKay interactions after this episode.

It figures that "The Shrine" was the one darn episode of SG-A that my DVR, for some mysterious reason, decided *not* to record.

Does anyone know when the episode will run again?

They've used MALPs in previous episodes. Among those I can remember right now are "Rising" (the series pilot) when they sent one through what turned out to be the space gate and it wound up floating away, "Hide and Seek" (the second episode) when they tried to use it to lure the electric cloud away from the city (although that failed), and "Midway", when they sent one to check out one of the Pegasus gates used to access the station. Sure enough, it was destroyed by the Wraith who were attempting to get to Earth via the Midway station.

Decent episode...

My only nitpick would be that I don't think losing your memory turns your into a retard. :) The intermediate scenes were great, but the later development was just a wee bit over the top - did they forget to add the drool coming out of his mouth??? :D

A very good acting job, though - But I didn't buy what they were trying to portray. At least based on how they explained his condition.

And I still despise the McKay-Keller relationship. Ugh.

They said it was making brain-cells dormant, and it had tendrils spread throughout his brain... who knows what parts of his brain it switched off.

I think the issue isn't that Atlantis wasn't using MALPS, but rather from what was said about "sending a MALP through EVERYtime they established a connection" it seemed like Woolsey wanted to use one everytime the wormhole made an out-bound connection just to make sure things were still kosher. Of course why they just couldn't connect to the MALP already on site... who knows, unless they didn't leave it there for the long survey mission on the glaciers.

Maybe living in the Pegasus galaxy has rubbed off on the Atlantians as the natives have been using the Gate system for generations without sending MALPs through... though I STILL wonder where the Wraith gained access to the Alterans gate address book.

I watched my Grandpa die due to complications with Alzheimer's, and my father is also going down the same road at the moment, and I can tell you quite honestly that Hewlett accurately portrayed someone with it. They DO get upset and get frightened easily. So I take offence at your comment, smiley or no smiley. In fact, many nursing homes have pink lines drawn at patients' doors to "remind" them that where they are is their space.

In SG-1, they usually sent the M.A.L.P. back immediately after arriving. They probably don't have enough to just leave them at every planet their visiting at any given moment.
