SG-1 "200" and SG-U in general

I was watching the SG-1 Episode "200" and there was mention of What If the Entire Team was Younger.

At the time before SG-U was a glint in anyone's eye it was very funny. NOW?!?

Did someone know that this idea was going to become real at some point?

Wow! I never noticed that! The scene in "200" is exactly like SGU!!! Those hack writers! :p

"Daniel, I'm pregnant." From 200 does seem a little bit on the nose in hindsight now looking at SGU.

And, more hilariously, SGA only a year after "200" aired.

So, direct your criticism at Atlantis please. Teyla even had a pregnancy too. :p

Hell, here are all main cast members' ages at the time of the introduction into their respective shows (SGU actors are bold)…

Beau Bridges: 63

Don S. Davis: 54
Robert Picardo: 54 (in Season 5, previously a recurring role)

Robert Carlyle: 48

Ming-Na: 45

Alaina Huffman: 29
David Blue: 28
Brian J. Smith: 27

Michael Shanks: 26
Jewel Staite: 26 (in Season 5, previously a recurring role)
Jason Momoa: 25
Rainbow Sun Francks: 24
Elyse Levesque: 24

It's true that SGU contains some of the youngest actors/characters in the franchise. With two reservations: 1) It's a trend that actually started with SGA (especially Francks, Momoa, Staite), 2) SGU also contains some of the older actors/characters in the franchise. If anything, it's unusual that SGU introduced so many "young" characters at the same time.

(On the other hand, SGU has the distinction of featuring the oldest female main cast member in the history of Stargate. Amanda Tapping, the previous record holder, was 42 when she left at the end of the 4th season of SGA.)

Does Francks even count? He potentially could have playedan interesting character (with far more SG experience than Sheppard), but they didn't bother planning out his arc or history.

He essentially was little more than an extra with speaking parts.

Sounds almost like Chloe to me. :p

Anyway, main cast is main cast. The question whether a main cast member was "interesting" or had "enough screentime" is subjective anyway. Where are you gonna draw the line?

^He was listed in the opener in the first season, so yes he counts. I wish they'd pursued his storyline more, all he got was a "he probably died when the hiveship blew up but you never know." I liked him, especially when he came back after being totally addicted to the enzyme.

By season five, where he has a ten-second cameo, it seemed clear the writers assumed Ford was dead. A shame.

Honestly, it seemed obvious to me Ford was dead anyway at the end of The Hive. Sheppard's line about not counting him out seemed rather lame and tacked on.
