sfdebris Reviews "The Motion Picture"...

Part 1 is up for sfdebris review of Star Trek: The (Slow) Motion Picture. I don't despise TMP, it's not as a awful as The Final Frontier, but a fairly good story did get lost under all that heavy special effects and pretentious naval gazing.

Oh yay...another snarky complaining review trying to be witty...I shut it off at "Kolinaroscopy". He's trying much too hard to be funny and not succeeding. If you have to make 8th grade word-play to try to be amusing you're an instant "poor" rating.

I'm watching it right now.

I do like how he points out some continuity errors of the series....

Sounds like he was trying hard to mimic The Nostalgic Critic, but failing badly (though it does have it's moments). Hell, he couldn't even be bothered to redub some the few flubs he made while speaking.

I understand the movie has it's flaws, but he when he claims "Ilia's Theme" as generic, then clearly he has no idea what he is talking about.

Am I the only person who likes sfdebris' reviews?

Is this just a case of "Different Strokes For Different Folks?"

I think his reviews are great, especially the Voyager and Enterprise reviews. While I tend to agree, I still generally enjoy those series more than he does. It's also fun to try and guess what the 'Stupid Neelix Moment' is on an episode of Voyager.

There are oh so many.

I love sfdebris, I think he's very entertaining. The lame puns don't bother me since I think that's exactly what he's going for when he makes them.

No I enjoy him too. Even though I think he's overly critical at times.

In the end I did agree with assessment of TMP (Part 2 is up) even though he's not a fan of Goldsmith's music...

I don't fully agree with his reviews and he's not quite as authoritative as Jammer, but I mostly like his ST review videos. Life's too short to take everything said on the Internet too much to heart.

Here's Part 2 up for his TMP review, which is better and more indepth than Part 1. Come on, at least the parody of the Monk opening segment is at least moderately amusing?

F**K anyone that doesn't like TMP- a**holes like that probably don't like 2001 or Silent Running either; too thoughtful= too slow! Not enough laser battles, eh? How about I give you a real battle, d***wads? Name the time & place, and I'll effin' clean your chronometers!!!!

Oh.
Yes. Quite logical.

I watched this guy do his commentary on TMP. He doesn't raise a lot of new ideas of his own, instead rehashes others I've heard before. And I Like the OVERTURE. I liked it before it even had stars. I think this film is just not his cup o Earl Grey~:rommie: (The Klingons do look like sown together tennis ball heads lol)

Side note : But i do think his TNG reviews, and especially the idiocay (sp) this is VOYAGER is very funny and truthful. I think his stupid Neelix moments are awesome and yes I agress that Neelix is a shithead. I never liked him either, sorta always weirded me out in the first place going out w Kes. Ugly sicko.:guffaw:

You guys might just think I'm crazy, but I actually like Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I suppose compared to a movie like Transformers 2 it's not all that bad.

I don't mind that some fans really liked TMP and it did make a handsome profit, mixed reviews aside. TMP has been comparatively slated because the stilted script and plodding directing coupled with a nice score and special effects makes the whole movie feel like a hollow tube made out very beautiful, glowing glass...

Still, it is better than Star Trek V or the majority of the Next Gen movies. I think from my standpoint it played like the extended TV pilot it was intended to be, and therefore I enjoyed it a lot more, flaws and all. I'd still have liked to have seen Xon in action though.

I remember personally seeing it many times in the theaters to support the chance of more Trek. Common sense... they make money, they do sequels. Talked several friends & co-workers into it as well. So the numbers on the take were purposely skewed! (and I seriously doubt that I was the only original-airing Trekkie to do so back then).

This, in spite of the fact that it wasn't what I'd hoped for, was a variation of an aired episode (Where Nomad Has Gone Before), and didn't give us (me) enough of the characters (although it did highlight the fourth leg of the might triumvirate... the Enterprise!).

FWIW, I think the director's cut put the whole movie on a higher level, just by doing a few minutes differently. (brings home the importance of editing to me).
