sf/f TV development news - 2013

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

What, people noticed I'm gone? I dumped cable so I'll see the whole season when Netflix gets it on streaming, they're pretty good about AMC shows, and I'm sure I'll have plenty to say then.

I'm trying to ignore spoilery headlines, but I did see something intriguing that makes we wonder
if the virus alone can kill people, which of course would zombify them, thus upping the ante if characters can become zombies with no warning.

But don't blurt out the answer w/o spoiler code. I'll read it in a few months. :D

Mary Queen of Scots, Vampire Hunter.

The CW’s project is described as Game Of Thrones meets Marie Antoinette — if Marie Antoinette had a girl posse and was coming of age as a warrior queen.

Okay, the description doesn't say vampires, but it's the CW, so historic accuracy is the last thing I expect. ;)

Could be zombies.

Another tidbit, The Selection (the CW's Hunger Games ripoff) is still not dead yet.

Edit: more on JJ Abrams' future cop series. Definitely sounds like the Beautiful People premise, but more cop-centric.

Right but there's a difference between playing fast and loose with the historical record (The Borgias) and being outright fantasy (Game of Thrones). I suspect since the series is billed as 'fantastical', it presumably sits somewhere between those two programs. This kind of 'historical figure in a scenario where there is probably some still unstated fantasy element' brings to mind the upcoming Da Vinci's Demons, really. I wonder if that's now going to be a thing.

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

I'm pretty sure the CW wouldnt bother its pretty little head about any historical accuracies, because their audience isnt going to know the difference so it would be wasted. I wish they'd just go whole hog and have Mary waging a secret war against the vampire hordes, especially their leader, Elizabeth I.

Oh, you didn't know she was a vampire? It's so obvious in retrospect.

Throw in Cleopatra, Catherine the Great and (hey they already went there) Marie Antoinette, and you have the makings of epic entertainment. Of course they will all be 15 years old, played by 25 year olds.

Ming-Na cast in S.H.I.E.L.D.

Ming-Na will play Agent Melinda May. Soulful and slightly damaged by her combat experiences, Melinda is an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier who can — and has — gone beyond the call of duty.

Familiar face for genre fans. Nice to see they're not afraid to cast an actress who is pushing 50. ;)

Cool. I wonder if they'll pick up any other sci-fi veterans?

Ben Browder, Connor Trineer, Christopher Judge, Claudia Black...there must be a couple dozen names I could come up with, of genre actors who need to get back on TV asap.

What the heck ever happened to Josh Holloway for instance? Terry O'Quinn's gonna need a new show the way his current one is going.

I would love to see any of those people in S.H.E.I.L.D.

Question. Why don't you stream it from your computer/laptop on their website directly to your TV instead of waiting for Netflix?

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

I see the premiere ep on amctv.com, but are they really going to allow people to see all their episodes online? Seems like that would really screw up their relationships with cable and satellite providers (they just had a big fight with Dish), so I just assumed they wouldn't allow that. But if they do, I'll watch the whole series on my Roku if I can add AMC and my Mac if I can't.

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

I know the premier on AMC's website was a one time thing, but I don't know if it's available anywhere else next day.

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

So, bait & switch? :D I'm not interested in just watching the premiere and having to waaaait...I like having all the episodes available at once.

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

Yeah, I thought that was kind of cruel to the people who can't see it any more because of Dish Network, or was it Direct TV?
