Fox has bought Athena, a drama project from writer Lisa Joy (Pushing Daisies), Chernin Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV. The project, which has received a script commitment, is based on Joy’s graphic novel, Headache, a coming-of-age drama about a 23 year-old woman who discovers she’s Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare. Each week she must maintain her secret identity while battling a slew of ancient monsters from Greek mythology and searching to uncover which of the other Greek gods is secretly plotting against her to take over the Earth.

Futuristic Thriller Drama From Howard Gordon & Josh Friedman Lands At NBC

Homeland executive producer Howard Gordon and writer Josh Friedman have teamed for a high-concept drama project, which has landed a rich premium script deal at NBC. The untitled project, from 20th Century Fox TV and Gordon’s studio-based Teakwood Lane, is described as a thriller soap set in a world much like ours, where human-looking robots are commonplace. After a routine homicide explodes into the first robot-on-human murder, the lead detective must solve the case and investigate a growing robot rebellion while dealing with the impact on his own fractured family.

Why not just resurrect the Beautiful People pilot, which sounds pretty much the same? Oh well, they can keep trying till they get a robot show on the air...

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

Anyone up for a Lifetime series? :D Not exactly the target demo here, but what the hey, I'm a completist...

In her first series regular role, Emmy winner Julia Ormond is set to star in the hourlong Lifetime pilot Witches Of East End. Based on Melissa de la Cruz’s best-selling novel, Witches Of East End centers on the adventures of Joanna Beauchamp (Ormond) and her two adult daughters. Joanna is a sexy, warm, artistic, tough, ethereal beauty who has been concealing a shocking secret from her daughters — namely, that they are witches born and bred. Having put her magical past and powers on hold, Joanna is now living a quiet life as a small town art teacher, but in the face of a grave and immediate danger, it seems the only way out is for the trio to rediscover their skills.

^^ Depends on the results, which are unlikely to be good at this point. And I disagree that Abrams was in any way faithful to the tone and spirit of Trek. Quite the opposite, actually.
Then you probably weren't paying attention to ST09 or TOS while watching them.

Billie Jacqueline lays out the smack down, with double mileage for angsting over it.

Both of these sound pretty cool to me. They have Headache on Comixology, so I might have to check that out too.

I'm in the US so I'll have to wait for it to either be imported or released on DVD, but if either of those happens I might check it out.

Sounds I, Robot -ish. (the movie, not the book)
Sounds like the Elijah Baley novels. Maybe they'll give him a robot partner.

Pretty close attention, actually.

The statement in bold tells me otherwise.

Re: sf/f TV development news - 2012

Folks, if you want to debate the worth of the Abrams movie, there's a whole forum for that, and I don't think it has anything to do with the topic of TV development news.
