It's that time of the week folks. It's time for me to enter my usual comics-related avatar that most people won't recognise and nobody will vote for!
Oh don't cry, I'll vote for you this time. Maybe.
I thought reboot was to start something after it had stopped, theres nothing in the op about the cast having to have changed
And I argue about the story continuing, and I also feel that the whole tone of the film was different to the series
However I digress, if Odo_Ital feels that it's doesn't meet the terms he was thinking of, then I will abide by that decision
It's also an overrated film.

The OP image was edited out, so I didn't see it, but, yeah, Serenity the movie is a sequel/continuation to Firefly the series, despite a few continuity errors, and wouldn't be eligible for this contest.
And neither is this...Cameron "borrowed" quite a bit from a bunch of different movies for AVATAR, but its still an original-ish story, and, from what I've read, the possible start of a new franchise.

I'd enter a Lost av, but I'm still not sure what has happened again, or what happened in the first place. 
A last minute entry here. This is the first time I've made an animated gif. Unfortunately I had to resize it to just 100:100 in order for it to be 70 or less KB.
Not that my opinion means much technically speaking, but it looks good! As far as the size goes, you might want to try reducing the number of colors used in each frame. Plus, many editing packages -such as IrfanView - have a "Save for Web" option that will reduce the filesize as well.
