SF&F Avatar Contest: Alien Flora

Now, I haven't actually seen every single of these contests in quite a while, so feel free to object if this theme has been done recently.

Alien Flora.

(Not actually alien, but Dracaena cinnabari)​

SF and F is full of aliens from all over the universes (both the one we inhabit and the realms of fantasy) and we could probably all recite a long list of them - But sometimes there's also a need to present a totally alien environment that cannot be conveyed simply with a purple sky on the backdrop, blue sand under our heroes boots and some red rocks in the foreground: Sometimes there's even alien flora.

Off the top of my mind I could mention the Talosian singing plant from the Star Trek pilot, the Omicron Ceti III flower (with mind altering properties) and the sock-puppet-plant Beauregard -all from ST:TOS.

Your task for this avatar contest, should you choose to accept it, is to create an avatar of max. 140x140 pixel and 70 Kb that in some way contains alien flora.

I went with a big angry [and ultimately flash-fried] carrot...

...and in answer to your question in the other thread about timing, trekkiedane, in theory we try to run the contest so that the entries come in all week and the voting goes over the weekend and into Monday [for those who are away on weekends]. So in theory the winner puts up a new thread on Monday or Tuesday and the poll goes up Friday night or Saturday morning and runs into Monday.

Lately we've been honoring this more in the breach than the observance, owing to the demands of real life on the participants -- but it seemed like that was a schedule which worked when we had it going.

As threadmeister it's your call, but I'd suggest trying to get us back closer to that idea -- maybe keep the entry thread open until next Friday? We've not had that many entries lately, so a longer lead time might get a better turnout as well...

Now, I realise a shrubbery (or two) plays into this, but I'm afraid that even in that highly fantastic realm there is nothing alien about the shrubbery, it merely looks nice and inexpensive.
