Sexy ou Creepy?

doubleohfive

Fleet Admiral
I'm in New York. I've been in town for a week, on business. I was walking around, near the Williamsburg Bridge just before sunset, minding my own business and enjoying the je ne sais pas of the city. I noticed a lovely young woman walking by. She was wrapped from head to toe in winter clothing and carrying what appeared to be a full load of groceries and bore the most striking resemblance to a former lover of mine back in Paris.

Me: Avez-vous aller à l'université à Paris?
Her: I'm sorry, my French is really rusty, did you ask me if I went to school in Paris?"
Me: Oui.
Her: No, I'm sorry, you must be thinking of someone else.
Me: You look very much like someone I know. You are very beautiful, may I walk with you?
Her: All the way back to Brooklyn?
Me: I may never see you again, I'm in New York only a week.

Very fortunately for me, she said yes and we strolled along the path to the bridge for a few minutes when we reached the maximum vantage point to be able to witness the gorgeous sunset occurring before us.

Me: I'm here on business. Tell me, what is this key you wear around your neck? Have you ever been to Paris? This is my first time to Brooklyn; it is lovely.
Her: (laughs)
Me: Why are you laughing so much? May I kiss you?
Her: No. I don't know you.
Me: But we may never see eachother again.
Her: We're at the top of the bridge. Bijou bijou, and then you go to Manhattan and I go to Brooklyn.
Me: Very well. Bijou, bijou.

Not wanting to miss the opportunity life and my new muse has offered me, I swept this beautiful mademoiselle in my arms and kissed her with the passion of a thousand burning suns, our two forms unified as one, silhouetted only by the cascading brilliance of the sunset beyond us.

Naturally, she kisses back. I ask her to meet me for coffee, and give her my number. She says "maybe." With one last adoring glance, I turn around and make my way returning to Manhattan.

So, I'm replaying the scene in my head deciding whether it's sexy or creepy. I'm still not sure, and wondering what others think: sexy or creepy?

On a more serious note, it begs the question, seriously:

Had TSQ's initial reporting been as I've described here: the male perspective of (roughly) the same event, would that be perceived as "sexy" or "creepy?"

I think you asked it from the wrong angle; you should have switched the gender as to who was making the advances.

As I said in the other thread, it could've gone either way. I guess it's a bit like Schrodinger's cat. You don't know which it is until you open the box. Or her mouth, I guess...

Yeah, it's impossible to judge the situation simply based on the guy's actions. You have to take both parties into account. TSQ went along with it and seemed to have enjoyed it. It was certainly risky, but nobody got hurt.

Well, that approach was covered in TSQ's thread. I'm more interested in the theoretical situation I've posited -- would it be sexy, creepy, romantic, assaulting, etc. if it had been the man posting the recounting of the event vs. the woman?

Would it still be romantic and sexy? Or would it be creepy?

The way you wrote it here was romantic, not creepy.

Another man could've written the same story but in a very creepy way.

The problem is asking people who weren't there and weren't involved in the situation whether or not it's creepy. I don't think we can really make that judgment call, and in the end, does it even matter what anyone else thinks?

Well you know how I feel about it. :p

But I'm very distrustful (cynical? mean?) about romantic advances from anyone, particularly strangers.

That's an excellent point. I guess it says more about us when we answer, having only one side of the story than anything else.

I'm conflicted, honestly. On the one hand, as a man it does seem like the kind of thing that could be romantic to do, provided the woman in question feels similarly. On the other hand, I think of it from the perspective of my little sister, who very likely would not have appreciated the gesture as it seems TSQ did, and would probably have felt "assualted" (even though that seems like way too strong a word to describe it.)

I'm mostly just curious about people's reactions. But Robert Maxwell is right -- it depends entirely on the tone of the story as its being told, and on whether any of us would be there to witness it.

I'm still trying to figure out what happened to the groceries during the kiss. Continuity check please?
