seventy-five cent pieces

Twenty has the same factors (two, two and five in decimal) whether you call it 10100 (binary) 24 (octal) 20 (decimal) or 14 (hexadecimal).

A quantity, and any factors, is the same regardless of what you call it.

This is true, but I wasn't disputing the fundamental theorem. What I am saying is that we like round numbers in every day use, such as in coins and prices in our shops (bar the penny discount). And these round numbers are base related. ie, numbers written to one significant figure.

So when we have copper coins upto the first power of the base, and silver coins upto the second power of the base, then the factors of that base are very relevant to the coins we choose to mint.

A sixpence in a base ten system doesn't fit, whereas a fivepence does. But then the fivepence is part of the problems I mentioned above.
