Well, there is zero dialogue on who did what to the warp drive. Kirk just asks where they ended up, and shows neither satisfaction nor dissatisfaction, least of all surprise, at the answer. (After learning the helpless status of his ship, he tells Sulu with agitated tones of voice to "get them to Earth", but this is not necessarily the mark of a voyage cut short, and could just refer to Sulu completing the scheduled final impulse approach.)
For the visual side, we see the hero ship spinning from the hits before she ends up where she does. But ships can spin at warp and still travel where they intend to - sometimes it's a commanded combat maneuver, as in "Elaan of Troyius", sometimes it's what a ship has to shrug off in a warp chase or space storm.
