Series VII speculation thread!

I think an animated series based upon STO'S Agents of Yesterday would be perfect. Self-contained episodes (which you need in a cartoon), The Temporal Agents visit all eras, all species, guest stars from all the shows/movies.
I agree this would be awesome, but disagree with needing self-contained episodes for a cartoon. Most of the cartoons I've been watching lately - Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, Transformers Combiner Wars, etc - have had ongoing storylines with actual character development. *This* specific one might need that, maybe - although I'd say it depends on whether they'd aim more for a dedicated niche market, or more to try to pull in a general audience. Both have upsides for selling ads, but in my experience, the former is working much better than the latter, lately, for sci-fi/fantasy.
I'd like to see an animated series next. STAR TREK BABIES. The adorable adventure's of lil' Jimmy, Spock, Bonsey, Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov at the daycare they attend together.
Strangely enough, I'd rather see this than a stupid teen angst-y Starfleet Academy series. :techman:

As I've said before, my ideal series would be 25th century Next Next Generation.

I've also had some ideas (arguably not so great ones) about a non-starfleet freighter or Firefly type crew, a human serving on a Klingon ship, and a show which would be a melting pot of concepts from Voyager, Babylon 5, SG Atlantis, and BSG.

I could also see them doing a Kelvin timeline Excelsior show starring John Cho. People have always wanted an Excesior series, and Cho has done TV before...

What comes next for Star Trek after Discovery? Post your insanely early predictions, and if anyone remembers this when the time comes around, closest gets a no-prize!

I hereby predict Starfleet Academy, a series about the young Kirk, Spock, McCoy and company in the light and fluffy style of a CW superhero series. Not tied to any prior Trek continuity, but inspired by the Kelvinverse's characterisations.

Not sure if you meant that CW thing as a joke or not, but I think there's truth there.

If Discovery flops, expect the CW treatment to try and lure in a new generation of Trekies. Star Trek: Academy

I would hope they would jump to a different generation though and not try to do a Kirk, Spock, McCoy thing. Maybe explore the lives of cadets who fall somewhere between TOS and TNG. Explore that period of time between Enterprise-B and Enterprise C.

The Kelvin timeline has done a good job using the likenesses of Kirk and company because they jumped to another timeline. But to make a prequel match up with TOS could be a disaster.

An alternative would be a series that leaps a generation or two beyond TNG. This one would take the new crew deep into the Gama and Delta quadrant and do real exploration as opposed to survival like Voyager.

I like your Excelsior idea. Nice!

I would love to see a Star Trek beyond Nemesis.

Star Trek: New Dawn

Let's jump a generation or two and have ships that can transverse the entire expanse of the galaxy. What happens when Star Fleet advances their technology beyond anything the rest of the galaxy has? What happens when they reach the level where corruption might usher in an Imperial feel to the Federation of Planets.

In Insurrection, we saw the telltale signs of corruption in Star Fleet. It can happen. But what if that was just the beginning? What if there was an agency within that was corrupting it.

Maybe the antagonists in the new series see a noose being brought around the neck of the free people of the galaxy. Maybe they also discover rebels along the way and these rebels wish to take back their freedom and remove the Federation from their lives. What if the crew of this new ship sees the corruption and turns against the Federation and leads a movement to remove the impurity and restore Star Fleet to its values of long ago?

Imagine a scenario where this band of rebels and Star Fleet Purists have to join forces with the Borg (which has been done before in Voyager), and other sworn enemies. Imagine the storylines that could come from that.

I think a series set in a fledgling colony might be interesting - it would have a Starfleet presence and a ship attached to it, but there would be lots of civilians trying to make a new life for themselves on a planet far from their homes. Creating a society. Pioneers making the best out of virgin land. Developing trade and relationships with nearby races. But not because Earth has been destroyed. Everybody who is there has their own reason for being there - a fresh start, adventure, hiding from someone...

But why make it "Star Trek" and tie it with the inevitable baggage of being a spinoff? Just make it a new show that can do its own thing.

Because it's a side of Trek you don't see often.

But I watch "Star Trek" because it is "Star Trek". What you're doing in trying to jam an unrelated concept into the universe. I would be interested in a colony show because it is a colony show. I don't want a colony show wearing Star Trek's clothing. Allow it to be its own thing.
