Series VII speculation thread!

What comes next for Star Trek after Discovery? Post your insanely early predictions, and if anyone remembers this when the time comes around, closest gets a no-prize!

I hereby predict Starfleet Academy, a series about the young Kirk, Spock, McCoy and company in the light and fluffy style of a CW superhero series. Not tied to any prior Trek continuity, but inspired by the Kelvinverse's characterisations.

I have dependable sources informing me that the next series will be Captain Great great great grandfather Captain-Colonel Worf of the HMS Enterprise.

I predict a procedural, Star Trek: SCIS.

A crack team of investigators travel across the quadrant to solve the most difficult cases onboard the U.S.S. Gibbs.

Captain Sulu on the Excelsior

Starfleet Academy series

Captain Worf

USS Titan series

I think that's all the usual suspects ;)

Nothing we can ever predict. No one predicted a show set ten years before TOS. ;)

I did...

Totally real. Promise. ;)

A sequel to the prequel, which at the time didn't hit it off with fans of the other spin-offs, while also being a prequel to sequel, but apparently disney deboot the preboot.

Just don't do some Starfleet Academy or young Kirk, young Spock or any of that kind of hobcobblers, please thanks.
They probably won't do that while the movies are going. However they could do a Kelvin-Timeline Picard and Riker at the academy series. The only question is, will Picard be bald and will Riker have a beard?

I don't see them reprocessing old characters. TOS is the obvious exception as they are so iconic. Unless, it's through some cartoon medium or whatever, I don't see us revisiting TNG.

It's doubtful, but in the last few years so many old shows and movies including ones way more obscure than TNG have been rebooted.

I think a TNG reboot would look ridiculous personally. Trying to reboot an ensemble that was already in the shadow of the original is a double tricky business. I think if they were confronted with such a decision, they'd pluck instead for something fresh.

I agree with everything you're saying, except maybe for them preferring to do something fresh. The thing that concerns me most about Discovery is that almost everything we know they're including feel like reheated leftovers. The ship, the time-period, the main character, and the unknown incident mentioned in TOS.

I think Discovery will be a tough project to get working. It's not a done deal it will be successful (although as a fan I like most of the signals). But having said that, I think the impositions of canon are overstated and there's still plenty of scope to create new antagonists, villains, explore new issues and go on new adventures and all the rest of it. Nearly every human drama that's ever taken place can be repositioned and sent through the medium of space - so there's no reason any genuinely creative team of writers need run out of ideas.

It's a done deal that it Discovery is already profitable, and I think that will be what motivates CBS moving forward with another series. Discovery not being a success with viewers could be a factor as far as being able to sale distribution rights to a second series, but I can see CBS either moving forward before that is an issue or claiming execution was the issue and promising something different.

As far as a new series, my thoughts are either a post Undiscovered Country era or post Nemesis era show. I sincerely hope they don't just do a reboot with already existing characters. I personally want to see something new, something moving forward and not stuck in between what has already been done. Of course, just my opinion, but that is what was asked for. ;)

I'd like a series based on Gillian Taylor and George and Gracie. I wonder who could play Gillian Taylor now.

If you look at the prequel pattern, Star Trek's been moving later and later. First Contact shows 2063 and First Contact. Next we get Enterprise in the 2150s. The Abrams Films and Discovery are the 2250s.

After that, you get TOS, and the first six movies. The next space for Prequel Trek to advance into is Post-TUC/Pre-TNG. That's the last prequel space. But, they might want to stick with the Discovery time-frame. And there's the '90s nostalgia wave, which might spill over into Star Trek.

So, my predictions, and the order that I think they're most likely to happen...
1. A spin-off of Discovery
2. Post-Nemesis
3. Post-TUC/Pre-TNG

Still no Enterprise. I'm assuming they'll want to save the Enterprise for the films only.

Not even kidding, I'd watch the hell out of a space-cops show based around the Starfleet Judge-Advocate-General's office.
