Series 9 confirmed as a single "full run"

Great! :)

The main question though is will fucking Moffat be in charge of series 9 too? I seriously hope not.

If he's talking series 9, then the answer to that question is most likely, "Yes."

It's been rumored for at least the last month that Moffat was doing both series 8 and 9.

I'm glad that he's talking about a full series in 2015, as there were rumors of another gap year in 2015.

Note, though, there's still no confirmation of how many episodes are in either series 8 or 9's "full runs" - just that they won't be split seasons.

Moffat calls it "the traditional form," which implies 13 episodes and a Christmas special.

^ Once the Gallifrey arc was opened up, I pretty much figured that Moffat will be around long enough to resolve it. Plus, he'll probably want to handle the revisiting of Gallifrey in its condition. So, guessing a couple of years at least.

I Hate you Moffat! :P

We g RTD stick around for only four series and a year of specials which were fantastic, then we'd have to put up with 100s or shit series by Moffat. So not fair.

He said last year that he was closer to the end of his time on Doctor Who than to his beginning. Since he began work in 2009, then he knows that he'll leave the series by 2017. :)

Of course he also continues to say it's his dream job and he still loves writing for the show, so who knows.

It may well be that the opportunity to write for Capaldi will inspire him to want to stay even longer.

I feel some where along the way the meaning of this post got lost.

Believe me, I've considered that possibility! :)

I just hope we don't reach the point where Moffat starts saying things like, "I have been persuaded to stay."

Sounds good. Hopefully they bring Tennant and Smith back for a multi-Doctor episode or two in 2015 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the new show.

I wouldn't be surprised if Moffat stayed around until the 10th anniversary and then left. With Capaldi, the hunt for Gallifrey, and re-acquainting us with the transformed Gallifrey, plus who knows what else, I wouldn't be surprised if Moffat did the next 3 series.

If he hadn't set up a major new arc, I could've believed that he intends to leave sooner than that but not now!

I was under the impression he set up the instant-noodle Gallifrey story to last a lot more than a couple years. With the premise allowing various Time Lords to start leaking out as desired by the writers.

So does "repeating the same format" mean we'll have to wait until August 2015 for season 9 to premiere?

I'd actually be okay with that. Having a consistent time frame for when the season will air is far preferable to the random-ness of the past couple of years.

I'd rather they save multi Doctor team-ups for the franchise's anniversary, 60th, 70th and so on. Any more than once every ten years and you risk it not being such an event.

For the 10th anniversary of the new series, should they choose to celebrate it, I see it just being a regular episode of the season. Although, if the seasons do relocate to the fall permanently, I can see maybe an Easter special to celebrate the new show's anniversary. As for the story, I suggested a story a few months back bringing Martha and Mickey back to fight a renegade Judoon causing trouble on Earth. Could be pretty cool.

So what? 28 episodes in the next two series?

I just dont see any where near that many happening. Certainly not in any type of timely manner.

Maybe if season 8 runs end of 2014 into start of 2015 and season 9 happens in 2016.

Why not? That was the pace of the first five seasons. And it's barely more than half the production pace of a typical US network series.

Because Who as a series hasnt looked like that it can or wants to produce such an amount in a series in one quick go since season 5? A series that was produced in 2009 and aired early to mid 2010 (it is now 2014)?

And it's barely more than half the production pace of a typical US network series.

Dr Who isnt a typical US network series of course.

My point is, why would it be logistically problematical to achieve a pace that is provably achievable? Just because the show hasn't maintained that pace for a few years, that doesn't mean there's anything making it impossible for them to do so again.
