Series 8 soundtrack

Worf2DS9

So, the 3-disc, 70-item soundtrack for Murray Gold's Series 8 soundtrack came out yesterday on iTunes. Has anyone gotten this yet or have any favourite tracks? I've really only sampled the opening theme and "A Good Man? (Twelve's Theme)", which sounds quite good.

I pre-ordered the CD set on Amazon last weekend for $30. Kind of annoyed as it's available for $20 on the Screen Archives website and I just didn't think to check. Still waiting on delivery.

One of my favorite themes is Robin Hood's theme I have to say. :)
The entire episode has a much better soundtrack than i remembered.
Kinda elevates the episode for me retroactively. :)

Edit: This one I mean

When looking at the track list, I assumed the theme would just be the standard televised version, which I wouldn't really consider purchasing. I was very pleased though to see it's 1:16 long, meaning the "full" version. That's a guaranteed track purchase for me, even though the theme always seemed a bit grating to me. I love me some Middle-8! :techman:

ETA: Just listened to it. The middle-8 bit was actually considerably less grating on the ears than the main part, and was in fact pretty good. I also heard a hint of some classic Who in there. I like it. Definitely worth the purchase!

^^The Middle-8 in this version is awesome! Why do they leave that part out in the show?

Yes, I know, credit-lengths and all that, but using that would be a hell of a lot better than filling the end credits with too often repeated "wee-ooh."

 Eew. The theme tune is a splice job.

They just took the completed intro master with sound effects (warble as clock face appears, zooshy sound for lens flair flash as TARDIS zips off, and similar zooshy sound when the unraveling clock face starts glowing blue as Capaldi's name dissapears) and spliced in the middle 8.

It doesn't flow together very well, the spliced in middle 8's baseline sound doesn't quite match, and the splice points are noticeable especially when listening to it through headphones.

So far I've downloaded the generally dislikable main theme (couldn't resist adding a new version to my playlist!). For this S8 version though, I just really don't like the high-pitched "oo-wee-oooo" bits, and hope we get a new version for S9 that isn't like nails on chalkboard. I also got the next track, "A Good Man? (Twelve's Theme)", which is a nice piece of music, though at 7:33, it does take a little while to get into gear. I also like "(The Majestic Tale of) An Idiot With a Box".

Timelord Vic, I'll give that Robin Hood track a listen! (The YT vid in your post wouldn't play for me)

I got my set on Saturday in the mail, but only listened to the first two tracks this morning on my drive to work. While I initially loathed the Series 8 theme, I have to say it sounds a lot better on my sound system than ever did on my TV.

Still kind of irritated though (ok, a lot) that they never included a proper release of the Series 7 theme, nor ever explained (that I've been able to find) why that choice was made.
