At this point it seems less clear that 25th August will be the premiere date, with 1 September looking like another possibility. But we still don't know.

The BBC have to Wednesday to finalise the schedule for the 25th (or rather to publically announce the finalised schedule).
The one thing that might make a 1st of September start more likely is the news that the next issue of DWM has been delayed a week. (Possibly because it was put together with the 25th as the assumed start date.)
Either way by the end of September it'll be time for another gap and I'm not expecting the 2nd half of the series before Easter.
BBC America has a special for this Saturday (18th). The Timey Wimey of Doctor Who, a new program.
The 25th has The Destinations of Doctor Who, another new special.
The week after that isn't available.
Regular BBC doesn't have any info for the 25th.

Based on past experience with BBC America, the 8 o'clock blocks on the 8th and 15th would be repeats of the previous week's first-run episode.
Space I guess will make their announcement after the BBC and BBC America confirm their dates. That's usually how it goes for us. Last season I believe (can't remember now), we got it like a day or so after it aired on BBC America.
I'd have thought more likely they didn't want it out before the 25th, if there's spoilery stuff in it. The Beeb's story about REG mentioned that the show returns "this month"

September 1st ends off w/ The Doctor, The Widow & The Wardrobe, which is 58 minutes on the blu-ray, so no doubt they're stretching out the full version there.
September 8th looks right. They'll probably run the episode back to back with itself, unless the first showing is 1 hour 15 minutes or something.

Oh, that's interesting. A week ago "The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe" was marked as being in a 60 minute slot, and it's not now.
No, they're not going to stretch "TD,tW,atW" into a two-hour slot. BBC America will gut the episode like a fish to make it fit into the 8-to-9 block. It's their standard operating procedure.
Also in their standard operating procedure, they run a marathon of the preceding season leading into the Christmas specials or season premieres.
Basically, based on past history with the way BBC America handles their broadcasts, September 1st is the premiere date for the US.
The press screening is tonight and I personally find it strange that it would happen tonight if Who doesn't return till the first. My money is still for a week Saturday on BBC One.

BBC America (and Space) aired the episodes same day as the UK last year. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot waiting a week.
I know they did, but if I remember rightly, that's because BBCA co-financed the opening two parter. No such co-financing occurred for this series opener. I'm sure it will annoy a few people, it's hardly BBCA or Space shooting themselves in the foot though.
It on other hand doesn't make a lick of sense to show the press screening on Tuesday 14th August, but wait a full two and a half weeks until Saturday 1st September to air the series premier. Nor may I add does it make a lick of sense to wait a week and a half.
The scheduling of the press and Edinburgh Television Festival screenings does seem to point to a 25th August date, but if there was a late decision to delay the premiere by a week that may not mean much. Apparently the Radio Times for 18-24 August makes no mention of Doctor Who in its "next week" section.
Yup. I'd consider that along with the one week delay for DWM to be that, really.

But in bigger news, Matt Smith has apparently confirmed that he'll be in a 2013/2014 series. I still don't know when they'll find time to make that (unless he means a couple specials in late 2013 and a series in 2014), but...

Xmas special 'inspired' by "The Snowman". In the ranks of Bad Ideas, Moffat's decision to connect every Xmas Special with some existing Xmassy story is right up there.
How would you do it?
Write something completely original?
I'm sure "the kids" will love Matt Smith zooming through the sky with a flying snowman though.
