Series 7 FINALLY Starts Shooting

I noticed we're saying this is Gatiss's second episode of the season. What about that episode he's writing that's supposed to guest star David Warner? Is that this episode, with those two returning characters, or is he supposed to be in the other one written by Gatiss?

They just finshed shooting his first episode, completely studio-bound. That was the one with David Warner and Liam Cunningham. [SPOILERS BELOW]. They've now moved on to his second one, which will have the Riggs and those two returning characters in it.

That one is set onbard a submarine during the Cold War and will (allegedly) feature an Ice Warrior (singular) being found on the ocean floor.

There was apparently some location work for the submarine story, shot at the same steelworks they've used for stuff before - but none of the main cast were involved on location, just some extras.

Wouldn't Sea Devils be more appropriate?

I'm half joking. I look forward to seeing those partcular aliens too. They're cool (pun not intended).

TBH, I'm not sure they actually need to separate Silurians and Sea Devils in Nu Who, beyond as a social grouping - the Nu Who Silurian costumes are a mix of elements from both of them...

Matt Smith has been spoted sporting a Bowler Hat in the currently shooting episode.

Obviously. :)

What is it with the first re-appearance of old monsters in the singular? (ala: Dalek)

Cybermen, Sontarans, Silurians all had multiples of the race appear. This would only be the second time a returning Classic Villain appears in it's first episode as a singluar rep of their race.

This is another reason The Eleventh Doctor has become one of my favorite Doctors: His growing hat collection. It almost makes up for the lack hats for The Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Doctors.

Looks like they've finally reinstated the practice of having the Doctor and Companion try and dress to fit in with the period they're in.

It is also nice to see them apparently moving away from Matt in uniform again. The new coats last year, the green one in particular, were a good change. This looks like the second of two new costumes he's going to be wearing in the next series. I like that move - it's very Pertwee-esque (eg. the Doctor wears a variants of his costume, giving him more of a silhouette than a uniform.

This is definitely shaping up to be the best series yet as far as guest stars goes.

Mark Williams, David Bradley, Rupert Graves, Ben Browder, Jemma Redgrave*, Steven Berkoff, Dougray Scott, Liam Cunningham, David Warner and the Riggs. (And they still have another six episodes to cast!)

*Possibly playing a very special role indeed.

Of course, three of those episodes, all Moffat's, still have to be written. ;)

There's a review out of Elementary's pilot. And I realized when reading it that about half of Elementary's first season (assuming CBS picks up a full-season order) will air by the time Moffat writes his Sherlock script.

Smith and Diana Rigg

Damn straight they are!

I think Matt Smith looks just as awesome in that outfit as Tom Baker did in the Sherlock Holmes outfit.
