Senator Kennedy - Dead.

While I hardly agreed with most of his politics, or his personal choices in life, he was still a figure, and as a fellow person who calls Massachusetts my home, I surely hope he rests in peace.

This.

I posted about his death at another forum and less than five minutes later, someone posted a reply, calling him a murderer. At yet another forum, someone posted a thread and it took only fourteen minutes for a similar post. Its just nice to see that someone isn't a douche. I totally understand that not everyone agreed or liked the man, but he should at least be given due respect and not "blar blar, murderer, blar blar" commentary.

While I agree, sadly you ask too much of the internet and decency online.

Rest in peace, Senator Kennedy. My condolences to your family and friends. :(

RIP. :(

Ted Kennedy, in his long career, did more for the poor and the old and the underserved than can ever be measured. Our State and our Country owe him gratitude and respect in spades.

He was a troubled man. Anybody who lost two older brothers to murder would be. But when one older brother is the President of the United States and the other is a United States Senator and both are lost to assassins' bullets, the tragedy (and the scrutiny) is only multiplied. Yet still, despite missteps and mistakes, he went on to a life of service that few can equal.

Good-bye, Senator.

As one who has lived through the Kennedy family tragedies and triumphs (with the exception of the oldest brother, Joe) it is sad indeed to realize only Jean is left.

Ted had a rocky start and then became a rock in American politics. He has done good things, like him or not. He has made a difference, not a bad legacy.

He will be missed.

RIP Senator, you have earned it.

He also lost another brother during World War II, on I believe a very controversial mission...That's got to be a little tough as well.

This makes me really sad. It is a sad day for America. He was one of the greats in Congress. He seemed like he was always pushing to make America better. I hope his family can find comfort during this time.

Since it's so soon just let me say - Ding Dong.

From former President Bush:

Laura and I are saddened by the death of Senator Ted Kennedy. We extend our condolences and prayers to Senator Kennedy's wife, Vicki, and all of their family.

Ted Kennedy spent more than half his life in the United States Senate. He was a man of passion who advocated fiercely for his convictions. I was pleased to work with Senator Kennedy on legislation to raise standards in public schools, reform immigration, and ensure dignity and fair treatment for Americans suffering from mental illness.

In a life filled with trials, Ted Kennedy never gave in to self-pity or despair. He maintained his optimistic spirit, his sense of humor, and his faith in his fellow citizens. He loved his family and his country -- and he served them until the end. He will be deeply missed.

You can say many things about Bush, but one thing is clear -- he is always classy when someone passes away, even his political foes. Ill-mannered conservatives on this and other boards can learn something from the 43rd president, as well as other classy conservatives like Orrin Hatch, on how to react to a noted figure's death. RIP Ted Kennedy, liberal lion of the Senate. -- RR

You're a class act, Michael Chris! Bless your heart! -- RR
