Sen. Edward Moore Kennedy, the youngest Kennedy brother who was left to head the family's political dynasty after his brothers President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy were assassinated, has died at age 77.

Known as the "liberal lion of the Senate," Kennedy championed health care reform, working wages and equal rights in his storied career. In August, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom -- the nation's highest civilian honor -- by President Obama. His daughter, Kara Kennedy, accepted the award on his behalf.
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, known as Ted or Teddy, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in May 2008 and underwent a successful brain surgery soon after that. But his health continued to deteriorate, and Kennedy suffered a seizure while attending the luncheon following President Barack Obama's inauguration.

Sad. :( Rest in peace.

Very sad, very sad. And mere weeks after losing his sister. Rest in peace Mr. Kennedy. My condolences to the family.

Is CNN making a big deal about this? They cut to hours of continuous speculation about nothing the last time he was hospitalized. Can't imagine what they're doing now.

Very sad news, indeed. Now I can see why the Obamas opted to vacation in Martha's Vineyard instead of Chicago. It struck me as odd at the time, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Obamas wanted to be within reach when the end came.

All news channels are gonna make a big deal about this. It'll be all over the news for a while.

This wasn't unexpected but it's still sad nonetheless. RIP.

While I hardly agreed with most of his politics, or his personal choices in life, he was still a figure, and as a fellow person who calls Massachusetts my home, I surely hope he rests in peace.

Aw, sad news. One of my best friends actually worked in his office in DC a couple years ago. She used to play with his dog.

It's on every channel but FoxNews. Surprise there.

Rest in peace, Ted, you will be missed.

RIP Senator. Hopefully his death will garner more important news coverage than the circus Michale Jackson's has become.
